Complexity Analysis of Bubble Plumes in Power Law Fluids Based on Chaos Theory

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In order to reveal the complexity of the internal flow of bubble plume in power law fluid, the flow characteristics and chaotic characteristics of plume are studied by experiment and theory. The chaotic characteristic parameters (correlation dimension D, K entropy, and Lyapunov exponent λ) of gas velocity under different superficial gas ...

Particle Data Management Software for 3DParticle Tracking Velocimetry and Related Applications – The Flowtracks Package

open access: yesJournal of Open Research Software, 2016
The Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) community employs several formats of particle information such as position and velocity as function of time, i.e. trajectory data, as a result of diverging needs unmet by existing formats, and a number of different,

A Mechanism of Polymer Induced Drag Reduction in Turbulent Pipe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Polymer induced drag reduction in turbulent pipe flow was investigated using a non-intrusive laser based diagnostic technique, namely Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).

MRI investigation of granular interface rheology using a new cylinder shear apparatus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The rheology of granular materials near an interface is investigated through proton magnetic resonance imaging. A new cylinder shear apparatus has been inserted in the MRI device, which allows the control of the radial confining pressure exerted by the ...

Optical Velocimetry

open access: yes, 2004
This work considers current potential uses of laser Doppler velocimetry. A discussion of other optical velocimetry techniques is presented and compared with their practical application to modern shock physics diagnostics, such as VISAR.

The Influence of Drosophila Spire and Myosin V During Mid‐Oogenesis Is Independent of Their Direct Interaction

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cooperativity between cytoskeletal proteins is crucial for spatiotemporal coordination in biological processes, like oogenesis. In mammalian and Drosophila oogenesis, proper assembly and function of actin networks require coordination between actin assembly factors Spire and formins, as well as actin‐associated proteins like myosins and Rab ...

Doppler-Based Flow Rate Sensing in Microfluidic Channels

open access: yesSensors, 2014
We design, fabricate and experimentally demonstrate a novel generic method to detect flow rates and precise changes of flow velocity in microfluidic devices. Using our method we can measure flow rates of ~2 mm/s with a resolution of 0.08 mm/s.

Computational fluid dynamics applied to gas-liquid contactors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
In this paper a `hierarchy of models¿ is discussed to study the fluid dynamic behaviour of gas-liquid bubble columns. This `hierarchy of models¿ consists of a Eulerian-Eulerian two fluid model, a Eulerian-Lagrangian discrete bubble model and a Volume ...

Acoustic‐driven surface cleaning with millimeter‐sized bubbles at translational resonance

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
Time‐lapse visualization comparing bubble trajectories. The top panel (0 Hz) shows a bubble's linear path under no acoustic forcing, while the bottom panel (50 Hz) demonstrates the oscillatory motion induced by acoustic waves at a resonance mode. This mechanism holds promising potential for applications such as surface cleaning.

Recent advances in boosting interfacial bubble dynamics with external fields

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
External physical fields, including acoustic, magnetic, thermal, mechanical, and optical stimuli, accelerate the entire bubble‐dynamics sequence of nucleation, growth, and detachment. Abstract The efficiency of industrial electrocatalytic reactions depends not only on generating gaseous products but also on their detachment from the catalyst surface ...
