Hierarchical model for the scale-dependent velocity of seismic waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Elastic waves of short wavelength propagating through the upper layer of the Earth appear to move faster at large separations of source and receiver than at short separations.

Intraoperative Collection of Ascitic Fluid With Intra‐ or Postoperative Reinfusion in Ovarian Cancer: Safety and Feasibility of a Roller Pumping Method

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients with ovarian cancer often present with massive ascites, leading to significant protein loss during surgical procedures. Although cell‐free concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is used in palliative settings to mitigate protein loss, its application in intraoperative settings remains unexplored.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Analysis of community groups in large dynamic social network graphs through fuzzy computation

open access: yesSystems and Soft Computing
This study presents a fuzzy computing approach for dynamic community detection, termed Fuzzy Time-variant Community Groups (FTCG), utilizing fuzzy weighting techniques to track evolving network structures over time.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

CHF6523 data suggest that the phosphoinositide 3-kinase delta isoform is not a suitable target for the management of COPD

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory condition. Given patients with COPD continue to experience exacerbations despite the availability of effective therapies, anti-inflammatory treatments targeting novel ...

Safety and immunogenicity of an mRNA-based RSV vaccine in seropositive children aged 12–59 months

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common respiratory pathogen in children. After demonstrating safety and immunogenicity in adults, mRNA-1345 encoding the RSV prefusion (preF) stabilized F glycoprotein was investigated in children.

Experimental Investigation of the Vehicle–Ground Interaction – Experiment Preparation and Preliminary Results

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering, 2017
Interaction of the moving vehicle and the ground represents the actual engineering, environmental and economic problem. Due to the complexity of the problem, a combination of the experimental measurement and the computational simulation to understand the

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Effects of inhaled beclometasone dipropionate/formoterol fumarate/glycopyrronium vs. beclometasone dipropionate/formoterol fumarate and placebo on lung hyperinflation and exercise endurance in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background The single-inhaler triple combination of beclometasone dipropionate, formoterol fumarate, and glycopyrronium (BDP/FF/G) is available for maintenance therapy of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
