A deficit to reach the isokinetic velocity in youth wheelchair users with spina bifida

open access: yesThe Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine
The self-paced adopted by wheelchair users in their postural transfers and locomotion may require sufficient levels of speed-strength in the upper limbs. In clinical practice, we observed limited functional independence and social participation. This study aimed to investigate and compare the speed-strength relationship between wheelchair users with ...

Surface‐Capped Protein Nanoparticles for Nonviral Gene Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Developing simple, safe, and efficient nonviral delivery systems remains a significant challenge in bioengineering. Nanoparticles offer promising gene delivery capabilities with reduced toxicity; however, long‐standing challenges related to effective plasmid encapsulation and delivery exist.

Unilateral Ankle‐Foot Exoneuromusculoskeleton with Balance‐Sensing Feedback for Self‐Help Telerehabilitation after Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study introduces a hybrid robot that integrates mechanical assistance by musculoskeletons (i.e., soft pneumatic muscle with rigid exoskeletal extensions), neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and vibrotactile feedback in a lightweight wearable mechatronic complex applicable to the paretic ankle–foot poststroke for gait restoration. The system can

ChicGrasp: Imitation‐Learning‐Based Customized Dual‐Jaw Gripper Control for Manipulation of Delicate, Irregular Bio‐Products

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Automated poultry processing lines still rely on humans to lift slippery, easily bruised carcasses onto a shackle conveyor. Deformability, anatomical variance, and hygiene rules make conventional suction and scripted motions unreliable. We present ChicGrasp, an end‐to‐end hardware‐software co‐designed imitation learning framework, to offer a ...

A LES-ALM Study for the Turbulence Characteristics of Wind Turbine Wake Under Different Roughness Lengths

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
To investigate the characteristics of wind turbine wakes under different aerodynamic roughness lengths, a series of LES-ALM simulations were carried out in this study. First, a sensitivity analysis of the time step of the simulation results was performed.

Microglia Mitochondria Support Neuronal Maturation via Metabolic and Transcriptional Reprogramming in Human 3D In Vitro Brain Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
xx xx. ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by disrupted neuronal circuit maturation. Emerging evidence implicates microglial function and mitochondrial regulation as contributors to ASD‐associated biology, yet the mechanisms linking these processes to neuronal development remain poorly defined ...

Present-day strain accumulation in the Liupan Shan area, northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau by GPS observations

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2019
We derived a new GPS site velocity field by integrating the data of ten newly built stations across the Liupan Shan Fault, in the northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau and those of pre-existing sites in this area for the period of 1999 - 2015.

On the wake of a Darrieus turbine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The theory and experimental measurements on the aerodynamic decay of a wake from high performance vertical axis wind turbine are discussed. In the initial experimental study, the wake downstream of a model Darrieus rotor, 28 cm diameter and a height of ...

Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.
