Severity of contraction-induced injury is affected by velocity only during stretches of large strain
Our purpose was to investigate the effect of velocity of stretch on contraction-induced injury to whole skeletal muscles. Single stretches provide an effective method for studying factors that initiate contraction-induced injury.

Direct numerical simulation of heat transfer from the stagnation region of a heated cylinder affected by an impinging wake [PDF]
Copyright © 2011 Cambridge University Press. The effect of an incoming wake on the flow around and heat transfer from the stagnation region of a circular cylinder was studied using direct numerical simulations (DNSs).

We establish a tBid‐mediated cell ablation system in axolotls, achieve rapid and efficient ablation of multiple cell types, including muscle stem cell, spinal cord cell, and connective tissue (CT) cells. We investigate the role of CT using tBid‐mediated CT ablation and identify its essential role for limb development and regeneration.

In multi-segment movements the relationship between the external applied force and the velocity of the whole body or limbs has often been shown to be quasi-linear.

Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

Kicking ability and kicking deficit in young elite soccer players
Kicking ability in soccer has been evaluated predominantly by the maximum ball velocity. The kicking deficit (KD) may be defined as the percentage of the difference between the maximum ball velocity each player achieved by the non-preferred leg kick in ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Change-of direction deficit in elite young soccer players
Change-of-direction (COD) ability is an essential physical component for soccer. This study examined the relationships between conventional speed–power assessments and COD performance in elite young soccer players.

After spinal cord injury, adult microglia remain persistently activated with chronic PRMT6 (protein arginine methyltransferase 6) upregulation. Prmt6 deficiency or inhibition reestablishes microglial homeostasis and promotes a scar‐limited repairment, enhancing axonal regrowth.
