The effects of sex and load on quantifying the bilateral force deficit during an upper body Wingate test

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living
IntroductionThe bilateral deficit (BLD) is a reduction in the amount of force during a bilateral task vs. the total force from the unilateral limbs performing the same task.

Present-day strain accumulation in the Liupan Shan area, northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau by GPS observations

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2019
We derived a new GPS site velocity field by integrating the data of ten newly built stations across the Liupan Shan Fault, in the northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau and those of pre-existing sites in this area for the period of 1999 - 2015.

Bionic Solar‐Powered Heavy Metal Trap for Eco‐Friendly Sludge Drying and Simultaneous Electricity Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, we propose a solar‐powered heavy metal trap (SPHT) for sludge disposal. The indoor experiments demonstrated that the sludge water content decreased from 90 % to 31 %, coupled with a decrease in heavy metal content to 6 % at most. Furthermore, the designed SPHT generated an initial potential of 0.10 V, and monitoring this hydrovoltaic potential ...

CK2α Deficiency Drives Myocardial Fibrosis via Desmin‐Induced Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CK2α preserves mitochondrial homeostasis by phosphorylating Desmin to recruit Cryab, ensuring proper filament assembly. CK2α deficiency disrupts this interaction, causing mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic shifts, bioenergetic failure, and oxidative stress—ultimately establishing a pro‐fibrotic environment that drives cardiac fibrosis.

Predicting delayed ischaemic deficit in subarachnoid haemorrhage

open access: yes
Fifty-nine patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) were investigated noninvasively to identify those at risk of delayed cerebral ischaemia. Sixteen patients developed ischaemic deficit but there was no clear relationship with computed tomography ...

A Skull Bone Marrow‐to‐Brain Axis Links Osteoblastic Activity to Myeloid Cell Trafficking, Cerebral Blood Flow, and Cognition in Alzheimer's Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Alzheimer's disease–linked APP expression in bone‐forming cells drives skull bone marrow remodeling and alters its vascular connections to the brain. These changes disrupt immune cell trafficking, cerebral blood flow, and cognition. Targeting bone marrow macrophages restores brain function, highlighting a previously unrecognized

Decrease of O2 deficit is a potential factor in increased time to exhaustion after specific endurance training

open access: yes, 2001
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an 8-wk severe interval training program on the parameters of oxygen uptake kinetics, such as the oxygen deficit and the slow component, and their potential consequences on the time until ...

An Embodied Paper‐Based Microfluidic Al‐Air Battery for Enduring Untethered Insect‐Scale Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a centimeter‐scale microfluidic aluminum–air battery (MFAAB) with dual‐surface anode and F−‐mediated byproduct decomposition. The design enables a high capacity of 2697.05 mAh/g Al and delivers tens of milliwatts to power LEDs, motors, and a toy car.
