Velocity index factor sensitivity to velocity distribution

Australasian Journal of Water Resources, 2008
Open channel flow monitoring is moving towards velocity as well as depth sensing to calculate discharge by the continuity method. Such technology always requires an index factor to calculate mean velocity from sensed velocity, because the sensing zone never covers the entire cross section.

The Maxwellian Velocity Distribution

1993
Abstract A concept of central importance in kinetic theory that remains to be introduced is that of the particle velocity distribution function, J(r, w, t). This is an extension of the notion of number density to the six-dimensional space—known as phase-space —obtained by adjoining physical space with velocity space. We proceed as in the

Particle velocity distribution measurement by holography

Applied Optics, 1979
A number of particle fields having a 1-D velocity distribution are recorded holographically by double exposure. The reconstructed fringe patterns in the Fraunhofer plane are sampled on-line using a linear photodiode array, and the computed velocity distributions are compared with the input functions.

Particle Velocity Distributions

Abstract This chapter describes the particle speeds and velocities produced by aggregation and fragmentation. The research literature contains a wealth of relevant experimental and computational data. However, the vast majority of these results are specific to a single situation. This chapter summarizes some of the few results that apply
