Intra-Set Velocity Decline and Set-to-Set Changes During a Standardized Moderate-Load Back Squat Protocol in Trained Track and Field Athletes

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Velocity-based training (VBT) is widely used to monitor resistance training intensity and fatigue through movement velocity. However, repetition-by-repetition velocity behavior and set-to-set fatigue responses under standardized moderate-load conditions ...

The influence of interstitial cells of Cajal loss and aging on slow wave conduction velocity in the human stomach

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2021
Loss of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) has been associated with gastric dysfunction and is also observed during normal aging at ~13% reduction per decade. The impact of ICC loss on gastric slow wave conduction velocity is currently undefined.

Effect of the Radial Velocity Distribution on the Loss Generation of a Contra-Rotating Fan in a Ventilation System

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
Quantification of the loss generation of ducted contra-rotating fan (CRF) blades is difficult to achieve, since there are no guide vanes between rotors.

Castration‐resistant prostate cancer cells are addicted to the high activity of cyclin‐dependent kinase 2

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that emergence of castration‐resistant prostate (CRPC) is associated with significant upregulation of cyclins that positively regulate cyclin‐dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and concomitant downregulation of CDK4 cyclins. This renders CRPC cells dependent on the high activity of CDK2, and CDK2 inhibitors synergistically sensitize CRPC cells to both ...

Small tympanic membrane perforations in the inferior quadrants do not impact the manubrium vibration in guinea pigs. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BACKGROUND: It has been believed that location of the perforation has a significant impact on hearing loss. However, recent studies have demonstrated that the perforation sites had no impact on hearing loss.

Paclitaxel induces NM2‐dependent cellular contraction through GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and RhoA/ROCK activation in cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Taxanes are widely used chemotherapeutics whose effects on cellular mechanics remain poorly understood. We show that paclitaxel induces rapid cellular contraction by promoting GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and non‐muscle myosin II activation through RhoA/ROCK.

Post-Activation Potentiation Enhancement of Countermovement Jump Performance using Velocity-based Conditioning Protocols with High-loads in Active Men and Women

open access: yesMotricidade
Post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) refers to the temporary improvement in physical abilities resulting from a previous conditioning activity (CA), and velocity-based resistance training has been proposed to optimise PAPE.

Mutant p53R273H disrupts PDPK1 homodimerization and contributes to PDPK1 activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
How mutant p53R273H drives AKT signaling is unclear. We show that p53R273H, but not wild‐type, directly binds PDPK1 via a mutation‐dependent conformational change. This interaction disrupts inhibitory PDPK1 homodimerization and enhances AKT phosphorylation.
