Effect of Transverse Gust Velocity Profiles

open access: yesAIAA Journal, 2020
A large variety of gusts that develop in the atmospheric boundary layer affect aerial vehicles. This study, performed in water tow tanks, compares the response of a flat plate wing to transverse vertical gusts with a top-hat and a sine-squared velocity profile at Reynolds numbers of 20,000-30,000.

Velocity Profiles in Shear-Banding Wormlike Micelles [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2003
Using Dynamic Light Scattering in heterodyne mode, we measure velocity profiles in a much studied system of wormlike micelles (CPCl/NaSal) known to exhibit both shear-banding and stress plateau behavior. Our data provide evidence for the simplest shear-banding scenario, according to which the effective viscosity drop in the system is due to the ...

Escoamento atmosférico no Centro de Lançamento de Alcântara (CLA): parte II - ensaios no túnel de vento Atmospheric flow at the Alcantara Lauching Center (ALC): part II - experiments at a wind tunnel

Flow-induced orientational change of aqueous solution of polymer after an abrupt expansion in planar channel flows

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
Flow-induced orientational changes of an aqueous polymer solution in planer channels have been studied utilizing optical rheometric technics. Two kinds of 1:4 abrupt expansion channels with the same width and different heights of 1 mm and 0.2 mm were ...

Approximate Stokes Drift Profiles in Deep Water

open access: yes, 2014
A deep-water approximation to the Stokes drift velocity profile is explored as an alternative to the monochromatic profile. The alternative profile investigated relies on the same two quantities required for the monochromatic profile, viz the Stokes ...

Are Urban-Canopy Velocity Profiles Exponential? [PDF]

open access: yesBoundary-Layer Meteorology, 2017
Using analyses of data from extant direct numerical simulations and large-eddy simulations of boundary-layer and channel flows over and within urban-type canopies, sectional drag forces, Reynolds and dispersive shear stresses are examined for a range of roughness densities.

A streamwise-constant model of turbulent pipe flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A streamwise-constant model is presented to investigate the basic mechanisms responsible for the change in mean flow occuring during pipe flow transition.
