SLIP VELOCITY OF RIGID FIBERS IN A TURBULENT CHANNEL FLOW
Proceeding of Eighth International Symposium on Turbulence and Shear Flow Phenomena, 2013In this study, the slip velocity between rigid fibers and a viscous carrier fluid is investigated for the reference case of turbulent channel flow. The statistical moments of the slip velocity are evaluated modelling fibers as prolate spheroids with Stokes number, St, ranging from 1 to 100 and aspect ratio, λ, ranging from 3 to 50.

The slip behavior of velocity-weakening fault barriers
2021<p>Subduction earthquakes are among the most devastating natural hazards across the planet and yet the factors controlling their size remain poorly understood. It is thus important to investigate the mechanisms controlling rupture arrest and runaway, in particular the nature of rupture barriers (areas where earthquakes tend to stop ...

Abstract We used a rotary shear apparatus to investigate changes of fluid transport properties in a fault zone by real-time measurement of gas flow rates during and after shearing of hollow sandstone cylinders at various slip rates. Our apparatus measures permeability parallel to the slip plane in both the slip zone and wall rocks.

Stokes' Second Problem with Velocity Slip Boundary Condition
Key Engineering Materials, 2011The damping effect of microfluidics has great effect on the dynamic characteristics of MEMS devices. Based on the separation of variables and the integral transform methods, the Stokes' second problem is solved at the microscale velocity slip boundary condition and the analytical solution for velocity distribution is obtained.

Fast Slip Velocity in a High-Entropy Alloy
JOM, 2018Due to fluctuations in nearest-neighbor distances and chemistry within the unit cell, high-entropy alloys are believed to have a much higher resistance to dislocation motion than pure crystals. Here, we investigate the coarse-grained dynamics of a number of dislocations being active during a slip event.

Slip velocity over a perforated or patchy surface
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2010Shear flow over a solid surface containing perforations or patches of zero shear stress is discussed with a view to evaluating the slip velocity. In both cases, the functional dependence of the slip velocity on the solid fraction of the surface strongly depends on the surface geometry, and a universal law cannot be established.

Slip Velocities in Mixture Vertical Pipe Flow
2013The paper presents results of an experimental investigation of conveyed particles and carrier liquid velocities during flow of heterogeneous mixture in a vertical pipe. Measurements were carried out in hydraulic laboratory of Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences in transparent pipe of inner diameter D = 150 mm. Velocities of individual
