Elinvar Materials: Recent Progress and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Elinvar materials, exhibiting temperature‐invariant elastic modulus, are critical for precision instruments and emerging technologies. This article reviews recent progress in the field, with a focus on the anomalous thermoelastic behavior observed in key material systems.

g-Jitter mixed convective slip flow of nanofluid past a permeable stretching sheet embedded in a Darcian porous media with variable viscosity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The unsteady two-dimensional laminar g-Jitter mixed convective boundary layer flow of Cu-water and Al2O3-water nanofluids past a permeable stretching sheet in a Darcian porous is studied by using an implicit finite difference numerical method with quasi ...

Dynamics of Torque-Speed Profiles for Electric Vehicles and Nonlinear Models Based on Differential-Algebraic Equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The so-called μ — λ curves, where is the slip ratio and μ is the normalised traction force or the friction index, are nonlinear functions of the velocity of the vehicle and the wheel rotational velocity.

Strong dynamical effects during stick-slip adhesive peeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We consider the classical problem of the stick-slip dynamics observed when peeling a roller adhesive tape at a constant velocity. From fast imaging recordings, we extract the dependencies of the stick and slip phases durations with the imposed peeling ...

Fokker-Planck and Langevin equations for arbitrary slip velocities [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1987
An expression for the Fokker-Planck equation governing the velocity distribution function of particles or heavy molecules immersed in a host light gas valid for arbitrary mean velocities of the heavy component is given. This expression generalizes previous results which were limited to small differences between the mean velocities of the heavy and ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Free convective flow of heat generating fluid through a porous vertical channel with velocity slip and tem

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2015
This paper investigates the unsteady free convective flow of heat generating/absorbing fluid through a porous vertical channel with velocity slip and temperature jump.

The influence of variable electrical conductivity on non-Darcian Casson nanofluid flow with first and second-order slip conditions

open access: yesPartial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics, 2021
Simulation of non-Darcian Casson flow subject to a second-order velocity slip and heat transfer due to nanofluid over a permeable stretching surface is exemplified numerically.

On the velocity-strengthening behavior of dry friction

open access: yes, 2014
The onset of frictional instabilities, e.g. earthquakes nucleation, is intimately related to velocity-weakening friction, in which the frictional resistance of interfaces decreases with increasing slip velocity.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.
