dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Gravitational Capture and Scattering of Straight Test Strings with Large Impact Parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The capture or scattering of an initially straight infinite test cosmic string by a Kerr-Newman black hole, or by any other small source of an electrovac gravitational field, is analyzed analytically when the string moves with initial velocity v and ...

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.

Study on dynamic characteristics of drill string in deep-water riserless drilling

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2023
The cost and security of ocean drilling are directly related to the efficient exploration and development of ocean resources. The riserless drilling system is usually adopted in the ocean drilling.

Averaged Methods for Vortex-String Evolution

open access: yes, 1997
We discuss friction-dominated vortex-string evolution using a new analytic model recently developed by the authors. By treating the average string velocity, as well as the characteristic lengthscale, as dynamical variables, we can provide a quantitative ...

CMB temperature trispectrum of cosmic strings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We provide an analytical expression for the trispectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature anisotropies induced by cosmic strings. Our result is derived for the small angular scales under the assumption that the temperature anisotropy ...

Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

The Effect of Tensile Stress on Longitudinal Wave Characteristics of Drill String for Gas Drilling

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2020
To analyze the influence of tensile stress of drill string on the propagation characteristics of longitudinal waves during gas drilling, and to improve the quality and distance of acoustic signal transmission, a stress-longitudinal wave velocity analysis

Multiband Switchable Microwave Absorbing Metamaterials Based on Reconfigurable Kirigami–Origami

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable metamaterial featuring tunable microwave‐absorbing and load‐bearing performance is proposed. Stretchable kirigami and bistable origami configurations are integrated as actuating components, and the synergistic deformation mechanisms are systematically analyzed.
