The heart of the matter: Right heart imaging indicators for treatment escalation in pulmonary arterial hypertension

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, 2023
Right heart (RH) structure and function are major determinants of symptoms and prognosis in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). RH imaging provides detailed information, but evidence and guidelines on the use of RH imaging in treatment decisions are ...

Gastric varices without portal hypertension: role of left inferior vena cava?

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2012
A variant vascular anatomy was detected during regular analysis of multidetector computed tomography angio - graphy of the abdomen in a 70 year-old female patient, referred to the department of surgery for laparoscopic right colectomy for colon cancer ...

Cannulation configuration and recirculation in venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is a treatment for acute respiratory distress syndrome. Femoro-atrial cannulation means blood is drained from the inferior vena cava and returned to the superior vena cava; the opposite is termed atrio ...

Development and evaluation of a new biodegradable vena cava filter in a canine model

open access: yesAsian Journal of Surgery, 2017
Purpose: Preliminary testing of a new biodegradable inferior vena cava filter in a canine model. Methods: The biodegradable filter consisted of two parts, a filter cone and a stent. The filter cone was constructed of six polyglycolic acid polymer strands

Angiosarcoma of the superior vena cava [PDF]

open access: yesCancer, 1983
The first reported case of an angiosarcoma apparently arising from the superior vena cava is presented. The patient, a 20-year-old white man, was treated by surgical excision and reconstruction with dacron grafts from the left and right brachiocephalic veins to the right atrium. This was followed by a course of mediastinal irradiation.

Recurrent pulmonary embolism in an asthmatic patient who had interrupted inferior vena cava with azygous continuation

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2014
A 45-year-old woman with a history of recurrent pulmonary embolism was admitted to the emergency clinic with dyspnea, wheezing and tachypnea. Partial deep vein thrombosis of the popliteal vein was seen on Doppler sonography.

Do storage solutions protect endothelial function of arterialized vein graft in an experimental rat model?

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2020
Background This study aims to compare the effects of storage solutions commonly used in coronary artery bypass grafting on the vascular reactivity in vein graft interposed in arterial position in syngeneic rats.

Hemodynamic and recirculation performance of dual lumen cannulas for venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be performed with two single lumen cannulas (SLCs) or one dual-lumen cannula (DLC) where low recirculation fraction ( $${R}_{f}$$ R f ) is a key performance criterion.

Leiomiossarcoma de veia cava inferior

open access: yesRevista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões
We present a case of a 56-year-old woman with abdominal pain, normal laboratorial exams, normal carcinoembryonary antigen (CEA) and abdominal tomography exam with tumor formation in hepatic region. A tumor lesion was identified in a surgery in the medial

The incremental benefit of upfront surgery in renal cell carcinoma with venous tumor thrombus of the inferior venae cavae

open access: yesUrological Science, 2018
Background: Surgical extirpation for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with inferior venae cavae (IVC) thrombi is the standard of care. The incremental impact of upfront surgery has not been well described. Objective: We aim to quantify the overall survival (OS)
