Extremely Extensive Vascular Malformation Requires Special Preparation for Simple Dental Surgical Procedures—Case Report

open access: yesDentistry Journal
Background/Objectives: Vascular anomalies represent a complex group of conditions including vascular malformations and haemangiomas. Haemangiomas are benign tumours that have an endothelial origin. In contrast, vascular malformations are characterized by

Pingyangmycin Pretreatment Influences the Biological Behavior of Ocular Venous Malformation and Relates with Galectin-3 Expression

open access: yesChinese Medical Journal, 2017
Background: Galectin-3 (Gal-3) plays a role in the mechanisms underlying ocular venous malformation. We conducted this study to investigate the effect of pingyangmycin pretreatment on the Gal-3 expressions and biological behavior of ocular venous ...

Percutaneous Embolization of Congenital Portosystemic Venous Fistula in an Infant with Down Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Congenital intrahepatic portosystemic venous shunts are rare vascular malformations often associated with severe complications. We describe a term male infant with Down syndrome with high output heart failure secondary to a congenital arterial to portal ...

Piezoelectric Biomaterials for Bone Regeneration: Roadmap from Dipole to Osteogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Piezoelectric biomaterials convert mechanical forces into electrical signals, offering novel strategies to restore and modulate bone microenvironments for tissue engineering. This review examines molecular dipole origins, spatial arrangements, and pseudo‐piezoelectric mechanisms and highlights dipole‐engineering techniques for osteogenesis regulation ...

Multimodal Investigation of Angiogenesis and Its Prevention by Small Compounds in a Zebrafish Cancer Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A combined optical coherence tomography angiography and fluorescence imaging approach assesses tumor angiogenesis and drug effects in a novel zebrafish cancer model. By analyzing 3D vasculature data, the two imaging methods complement each other to quantify blood flow, vessel structure, and drug efficacy.

Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Secretome and Its Key Bioactive Metabolites Induce Long‐Term Neuroprotection After Traumatic Brain Injury in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pischiutta F and coworkers identify prostaglandins and kynurenine as key mediators of the mesenchymal stromal cells‐derived secretome's neuroprotective effects. A synthetic cocktail composed of these factors promotes long‐term functional recovery, reduces brain structural damage, and modulates neuroinflammation after traumatic brain injury, supporting ...

Prevalence and pattern of congenital heart disease among neonates in Gorgan, Northern Iran (2007-2008) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Objective: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital anomaly newborns. The aim of this longitudinal, hospital-based study was to evaluate the prevalence and pattern of CHD among Iranian newborns in Gorgan, Northern Iran. Methods: 11739

Microphysiological Uremia Model Reveals Biophysical Potentiators of Vascular Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A microfluidic platform of engineered blood vessels is developed to study the role of mechanical forces in immune cell adhesion and extravasation in uremic microenvironments. Elevated pressure increases monocyte activity, with ICAM‐1 as a key driver. Matrix density influences monocyte phenotypes, but the uremic environment consistently promoted a pro ...

Red Blood Cell‐Induced Bacterial Margination Improves Microbial Hemoadsorption on Engineered Cell‐Depleted Thrombi, Restoring Severe Bacteremia in Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A highly efficient extracorporeal device for treating bacteremia is developed by integrating microfluidic bacterial margination and engineered cell‐depleted thrombi strategically constructed in the device. The rodent models, severely infected with antibiotic‐resistant bacteria, recover from bacteremia after two subsequent extracorporeal blood ...
