Permeability and distribution of nerve growth factor in the brain of neonatal rats by periphery venous injection in hypoxic-ischemic state

open access: yesSpringerPlus, 2016
To investigate the permeability of β-NGF through blood-brain-barrier (BBB) in neonatal and adult rats, and the spatial distribution of β-NGF in different brain regions in hypoxic-ischemic (HI) and normal neonatal rats.To investigate the overall permeability of β-NGF through BBB, β-NGF labeled with I125 was injected into adult rats, neonatal rats and HI

Canagliflozin Alleviates Diabetic Glomerular Endothelial Injury via Melibiose in a Microbiota‐Dependent Manner

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Canagliflozin treatment reshapes the gut microbiota in DKD and elevates levels of melibiose, a metabolite derived from Roseburia intestinalis. Melibiose directly binds to and enhances the enzymatic activity of glyoxalase 1, leading to decreased methylglyoxal accumulation.

Aspirin-induced increase in intestinal paracellular permeability does not affect the levels of LPS in venous blood of healthy women

open access: yesInnate Immunity, 2014
The presence of subclinical levels of LPS from Gram-negative bacteria, also referred to as endotoxin, in the circulation may induce a pro-inflammatory immune response that leads to the development of obesity and insulin resistance. Recent data indicate that high-fat meals may elevate circulating levels of LPS.

Electrical Stimulation Directs Formation of Perfused Vasculature in Engineered Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrical stimulation (ESTIM) enhances vasculature formation in engineered human tissues. In 3D endothelial‐fibroblast constructs, conditioning with ESTIM promotes the formation of dense and highly branched networks that rapidly anastomose with mouse vasculature when implanted in vivo. Vessels formed under ESTIM are importantly functionally perfusable.

Autoimmune Encephalitis in Acute Care—Pathology, Diagnosis, and Management

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is characterized by immune‐mediated inflammation of the brain parenchyma, presenting with various neurological syndromes, including but not limited to seizures, altered consciousness, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and movement disorders.

Dual‐Responsive Dynamic Covalent Bond‐Based Assembly of Lipid‐Nanozyme Systems via Multi‐Target Synergy and Efficient Target Enrichment for Ischemic Stroke Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This system adopts a biomimetic phospholipid structure, covalently binding iNOS inhibitors, neuroprotective agent PCA and vitamin E derivatives through pH/ROS dual‐responsive bonds, and assembles them with Prussian blue nanozyme to form PBB@AHA. It can efficiently penetrate the blood‐brain barrier and simultaneously release multiple active components ...

Enhanced Na\u3csup\u3e+\u3c/sup\u3e/H\u3csup\u3e+\u3c/sup\u3e Exchange During Ischemia and Reperfusion Impairs Mitochondrial Bioenergetics and Myocardial Function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Inhibition of Na+/H+ exchange (NHE) during ischemia reduces cardiac injury due to reduced reverse mode Na+/Ca2+ exchange. We hypothesized that activating NHE-1 at buffer pH 8 during ischemia increases mitochondrial oxidation, Ca2+ overload, and reactive ...

Combating VEGFA‐siRNA‐Induced Metabolic Reprogramming via Glucose Utilization Deprivation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An ionizable lipid nanoparticle co‐delivers VEGFA siRNA and glucose oxidase to tumors to counteract VEGFA knockdown‐induced, glutamine‐driven metabolic compensation. Enzymatic glucose consumption reverses the adaptive pathways and restores metabolism toward baseline, thereby sensitizing tumors to therapy.

Endothelial inflammation and thrombotic risk: From the leg to the pelvis and back

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Vascular Surgery
Pathological shear and stretch stress acting on the endothelium lining following venous reflux has been associated with an increased risk not only of thrombosis, but also of pan-endothelial inflammation.

Arterial and venous supply of the harderian gland in hens

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal
Background: The Harderian gland in domestic birds is a major paraocular excretory gland that has an important role in tear production as well as in the immune protection of the conjunctiva surface.
