On the internal flow of a ventilated supercavity
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2019This study presents an experimental investigation on the internal flow of a ventilated supercavity using fog flow visualization and particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements. The ventilated supercavity is generated on a backward-facing cavitator and studied in the high-speed water tunnel at St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. Fog particles are introduced

Control of the ventilated supercavity on the maneuvering trajectory
Ocean Engineering, 2015Dimension control of ventilated supercavity is the premise of realizing the controlling and maneuvering of supercavitating vehicle by regulating hydrodynamic distribution. The ventilation control system is modeled using control valve with equal percentage flow characteristic.

The control of ventilated supercavity pulsation and noise
International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2016Abstract A technique to control ventilated supercavity pulsation and noise is explored analytically and verified experimentally. The technique, which has its roots in parametric oscillators, changes the stiffness and, therefore, resonance frequency of the ventilated supercavity gas/water system by modulating or adding a sinusoidal component to the ...

On the shedding of the ventilated supercavity with velocity disturbance
Ocean Engineering, 2013Abstract Supercavity shedding is a focus question closely related to the stability of supercavitating flows. It is an important factor in laying a solid foundation for implementing the controllability and maneuverability of supercavitating vehicles. The effects of gravity and angle of attack (AOA) on ventilated supercavity in water tunnel are modeled

Computer Modeling of Pulsations of Ventilated Supercavities
International Journal of Fluid Mechanics Research, 1996The equation describing the expansion of sections of a slender axisymmetric cavity and the balance of mass are reduced to a nonlinear dynamic system. It is a system with distributed lag, simulating a slender, gas-filled, axisymmetric supercavity in a liquid.

Gas Flows in Ventilated Supercavities
2011The paper is concerned with a gas flow inside a ventilated supercavity. It is found out that there exists a ring vortex flow inside a supercavity, which forms a re-entrant counterflow and free boundary disturbances. Attention is drawn to the specific character in which a gas flow inside a supercavity disturbs its free boundaries.

Investigation into the behaviors of ventilated supercavities in unsteady flow
Physics of Fluids, 2018A systematic investigation of ventilated supercavitation behaviors in an unsteady flow is conducted using a high-speed water tunnel at the Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory. The cavity is generated with a forward facing model under varying ventilation rates and cavitator sizes. The unsteady flow is produced by a gust generator consisting of two hydrofoils

Three-dimensional ventilated supercavity on a maneuvering trajectory
Ocean Engineering, 2016One major practical application of supercavitation is to develop a maneuvering supercavitating vehicle. Research into three-dimensional maneuvering supercavities is essential to achieving this goal. The effect of inertial force on a cavity, triggered by the pressure difference between the inner and outer surfaces of the cavity, is modeled on the ...
