Muscle transposition graft for closure of a permanent tracheostoma in a Quarter Horse mare

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Permanent tracheostomy is sometimes required in horses with severe and irreversible obstructive upper airway conditions. Abnormal respiratory noise and altered vocalisation may be of concern to owners and its influence on mare‐foal recognition and bonding should be considered.

Differences in pulmonary function measured by oscillometry between horses with mild–moderate equine asthma and healthy controls

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 619-628, May 2025.
Abstract Background The diagnosis of mild–moderate equine asthma (MEA) can be confirmed by airway endoscopy, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALf) cytology, and lung function evaluation by indirect pleural pressure measurement. Oscillometry is a promising pulmonary function test method, but its ability to detect subclinical airway obstruction has been ...

Effects of Shot‐Blasting and Induction Hardening on the Fatigue Strength of Hot‐Forged Wheel Bearing Hubs

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hot‐forged wheel bearing hubs are manufactured using a complicated fabrication process chain to obtain the desired microstructure and mechanical properties in different zones that experience varying local stress states. The different process steps modify the surface roughness and the residual stresses distribution and therefore affect the ...

Two's company: Monozygotic twinning in the small‐spotted catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Developmental abnormalities in elasmobranchs (sharks and rays) are rarely documented, with reported cases primarily involving fin or cranial deformities. Monozygotic twinning, the formation of identical twins from a single zygote, is particularly rare in these species and has been observed overwhelmingly in viviparous elasmobranchs.
