In Our Intensive Care Unit the Experience of the Checklist Use to Prevent Ventilator Associated Pneumonia

open access: yes, 2016
Objective: Intensive care units are high risk units for serious infections like ventilator associated pneumonia. Preventing ventilator associated pneumonia is one of the most important infection control practice in intensive care units.

Nucleoside‐Modified mRNA Encoding Alpha‐Galactosidase A Ameliorates Fabry Disease Phenotypes in Human IPSC‐Derived Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human iPSC‐derived Fabry cardiomyocytes exhibited broad transcriptional dysregulation, apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired reactive oxygen species handling, altered contractility, and abnormal calcium transient decay, potentially mediated by phospholamban hyperphosphorylation.

Encapsulated Leptin‐Producing Cells Facilitate Entrainment of Circadian Rhythms in Rodents and Nonhuman Primates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A clinically translatable cell line can be engineered to produce leptin, encapsulated in biomaterial and safely implanted to produce and deliver the metabolic regulating protein within the body. Implantation of these encapsulated cells decreases the time it takes for mice and non‐human primates to adjust to circadian disruptions similar to those ...

Preventing ventilator associated pneumonia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Ventilator associated pneumonia is among the highest nosocomial infections in ICU patients. Ventilator associated pneumonia is related to longer length of hospital stays, higher mortality rates, and higher costs.

Intrasplenic Thymus Organogenesis from Injectable Tissue Fragments Restores Functional T‐Cell Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Clinical intramuscular thymus transplantation yields only short‐lived efficacy and marginal therapeutic benefits. Benefiting from the spleen's intrinsic strengths—rapid vascular perfusion, abundant developmental factors, and resident progenitors—the intrasplenic thymic grafts achieve robust thymic regeneration and substantial T‐cell reconstitution ...

Mechanical ventilation-associated complications and comorbidities in children admitted at pediatric intensive care unit: A cross-sectional retrospective study

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Emergency Medicine
OBJECTIVES: Mechanical ventilation (MV) is frequently employed in acute care settings for severely ill children, but it may be associated with adverse events (AEs). This study investigated the AEs and comorbidities in children receiving invasive MV (IMV).

Bridging Horizontal to Vertical Radiative Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Radiative cooling materials are mature but only work facing the sky, confining them to rooftops. Instead of developing new ones, this system bridges existing horizontal coolers to vertical windows using blades outside the glass. On an occupied urban building, windows stay up to 1.4°C below air temperature while preserving daylight, outward views, and ...

THSD7A Exacerbates Atherosclerosis via Activation of Signaling Axis αvβ3/CEBPD/IL1A

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
THSD7A exerts pro‐inflammatory effects and exacerbates atherosclerosis. Mechanistically, THSD7A regulates endothelial cell inflammation and atherosclerosis by activating the αvβ3/CEBPD/IL1A signaling axis. THSD7A is not only a genetic marker but also a potential therapeutic target for coronary artery disease (CAD).
