Quantification of Alveolar Recruitment for the Optimization of Mechanical Ventilation using Quasi-static Pressure Volume Curve [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Quasi-static, pulmonary pressure-volume (P-V) curves over an inflation-deflation cycle are analyzed using a respiratory system model (RSM), which had been developed for quantitative characterization of the mechanical behavior of the total respiratory system.

A Novel Protein NAB1‐356 Encoded by circRNA circNAB1 Mitigates Atrial Fibrillation by Reducing Inflammation and Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The circRNA circNAB1 is downregulated in AF patient. Silencing circNAB1 promotes collagen deposition and inflammation, whereas overexpression reduces AF susceptibility. circNAB1 encodes the protein NAB1 356 that interacts with EGR1 to mitigate fibrosis and inflammation.

Berberine is a Novel Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter Inhibitor that Disrupts MCU‐EMRE Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Berberine, a safe and FDA‐approved drug, is identified as a novel mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU) inhibitor. By disrupting MCU‐EMRE interaction, Berberine prevents mitochondrial calcium overload and protects against ischemia/reperfusion injury, offering a promising therapeutic strategy for diseases linked to mitochondrial calcium dysregulation ...

On the ventilation of surface-piercing hydrofoils under steady-state conditions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The present study experimentally investigates the onset of ventilation of surface-piercing hydrofoils. Under steady-state conditions, the depth-based Froude number $Fr$ and the angle of attack $\alpha$ define regions where distinct flow regimes are either locally or globally stable.

Experimental Evaluation of Ventilation Systems in a Single-Family Dwelling [PDF]

open access: yes4th International Symposium on Building and Ductwork Air tightness (BUILDAIR) 30th AIVC Conference "Trends in High Performance Buildings and the role of Ventilation", Berlin : Germany (2009), 2010
The French regulation on residential building ventilation relies on an overall and continuous air renewal. The fresh air should enter the building through the "habitable rooms" while the polluted air is extracted in the service rooms. In this way, internal air is drained from the lowest polluted rooms to the highest polluted ones.

The Cerebrospinal Fluid Secretion Rate Increases in Awake and Freely Moving Rats but Differs With Experimental Methodology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CSF dynamics are vital for neurological health. Yet accurate quantification of CSF rates is challenging. Using a novel technique in awake, freely moving rats, significantly higher secretion rates are found than in anesthetized rats. The findings highlight the importance of awake models and the adaptability of methods for studying CSF changes influenced

Macrophage HM13/SPP Enhances Foamy Macrophage Formation and Atherogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Previous research suggests that AIP may prevent atherogenic foamy macrophage formation. This study reveals that AIP, via its chaperone interaction with AHR, inhibits p38‐c‐JUN‐mediated transactivation of HM13, which encodes the ERAD protease HM13/SPP. HM13/SPP promotes foamy macrophage formation in addition to atherogenesis and plaque foamy macrophage ...

A Molecularly Defined Medullary Network for Control of Respiratory Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The dynamic interplay between central respiratory chemoreceptors and the respiratory central pattern generator is essential for maintaining stable respiratory rhythm and patterns, particularly during sleep. This study offers novel insights into the anatomical, molecular, and functional characteristics of a medullary network involving the nucleus ...

KLF1 Promotes Cardiomyocyte Proliferation and Heart Regeneration Through Regulation of Wnt/β‐Catenin Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In KLF1‐on (neonatal and Klf1 overexpression hearts) models, KLF1 regulates Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway and the expression of cell proliferation‐related genes via transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms, which induces cardiomyocyte proliferation and cardiac regeneration in mice after myocardial infarction.
