The ventilatory threshold: Method, protocol, and evaluator agreement

American Heart Journal, 1991
To evaluate the effects of different methods of detection, exercise modes, protocols, and reviewers on oxygen uptake (VO2) at the ventilatory threshold (ATge), 17 men with heart disease (mean age 59 +/- 6 years) and six healthy men (mean age 60 +/- 11 years) underwent six exercise tests on different days.

Comparison of computerized methods for detecting the ventilatory thresholds

European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2004
The aim of this study was to compare computerized automatic methods to detect the ventilatory threshold (VT). Thirty apparently healthy and physically active volunteers [22.5 (6.5) years; 1.72 (0.08) m; 71.9 (8.5) kg] were submitted to a progressive and maximal cycle exercise.

The effects of prior exercise on the lactate and ventilatory thresholds

Journal of Sports Sciences, 1985
This study examined the effects of prior exercise on the lactate (Tlac) and ventilatory (Tvent) thresholds. Ten healthy male subjects volunteered to perform one-legged cycling. Muscle glycogen reduction was achieved by cycling at 75-85% of maximal heart rate for 60-75 min, and by a low carbohydrate diet.

Ventilatory threshold and mechanical efficiency in endurance runners

European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1989
In order to evaluate changes in parameters at the ventilatory threshold (VT) and in mechanical efficiency (ME) during training in the years 1982 and 1983 we tested seven top-class endurance runners on a treadmill. The VT and ME were assessed during their training period (January 1982 and 1983) and during their competitive period (March and July 1982 ...

Effect of training on the rating of perceived exertion at the ventilatory threshold

European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1986
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of training on the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) at the ventilatory threshold. College students were assigned to either training (n = 17) or control (n = 10) groups. Trainers completed 18 interval training sessions (five X 5 min cycling at 90-100% VO2max) and 8 continuous training sessions (40 ...

Ventilatory thresholds in professional female soccer players

International Journal of Sports Medicine
AbstractThis study investigated the ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2) along with the corresponding heart rates, velocities and % of V̇O2 max at which these thresholds are reached in professional female soccer players. It also examined positional differences in the aforementioned parameters.
