Parallel wiring of bioelectrochemical devices with conventional generators unexpectedly boosts output. A biophotovoltaic paired with a solar cell delivers up to 50% more power at low loads than their separate contributions; a plant microbial fuel cell shows similar current gains.

Effects of load carriage on physiological determinants in adventure racers. [PDF]
Adventure racing athletes need run carrying loads during the race. A better understanding of how different loads influence physiological determinants in adventure racers could provide useful insights to gauge training interventions to improve running ...

This paper presents an agar medium with a phosphorescent grid pattern that measures the stress distribution generated by growing plant roots. Using phosphorescence, the system optically separates the grid pattern from the root and extracts the grid deformation.

Heart rate variability to assess ventilatory thresholds in professional basketball players
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine if heart rate variability (HRV) during incremental test could be used to estimate ventilatory threshold (VT) in professional basketball players, with sufficient precision to be used in their training ...

The effects of 5 days β-alanine supplementation on the velocity and the percentage o2max at the lactate threshold [PDF]
Purpose: To assess the effect of 5 days β-alanine supplementation on the velocity and the percentage of O2max ¬¬ (%O2max) at the lactate threshold (Tlac) during treadmill running.

In Vivo Microplastic Detection With Photoacoustic Imaging
ABSTRACT Microplastics are posing an escalating threat to both ecological systems and human health. Yet, current methods for investigating their bioaccumulation are highly invasive, requiring destructive analysis of ex vivo tissues via mass spectrometry, dye labelling, or Raman microspectroscopy.

Senolytic Therapy as a Preventive Strategy for Spine Degeneration and Pain
Cellular senescence promotes inflammation, tissue degeneration, and chronic back pain. In sparc‐null mice, early oral administration of the senolytic agents o‐vanillin and RG‐7112 reduced senescent cell burden and pro‐inflammatory SASP signaling across intervertebral discs, endplates, vertebral bone, and spinal cord.
