Left ventricular function in malnutrition
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1987Twenty-one dogs were chronically instrumented with ultrasonic left ventricular dimension transducers and micromanometers to elucidate the effects of acute protein-calorie malnutrition on cardiac function. Ten dogs received a regular diet for 3 wk, whereas 11 dogs received a protein-calorie-deficient diet designed to achieve a mean weight loss of 20-25%

Left Ventricular Aneurysmectomy in Patients with Poor Left Ventricular Function
Scandinavian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1992Physical performance and left ventricular (LV) function in the resting state were assessed in 22 patients with postinfarction anterior-apical left ventricular aneurysm (LVA) and global ejection fraction less than or equal to 20% who subsequently underwent radical LVA resection.

MRI of left ventricular function
Journal of Nuclear Cardiology, 2007Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is widely recognized as the most accurate noninvasive imaging modality for the assessment of left ventricular (LV) function. By use of state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, electrocardiography (ECG)-gated cine images depicting LV function with high contrast and excellent spatial and ...

Global left ventricular (LV) function is an important prognostic parameter and is useful for therapeutic decision-making. Since its introduction, twodimensional (2D) echocardiography has played an important role in the quantitation of LV function. However, the limitations of 2D echocardiography for the accurate determination of cardiac volumes and ...

Left Stellate Ganglion Block Impairs Left Ventricular Function
Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1994Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is an established procedure for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain. SGB results in an acute sympathetic denervation of a part of the left ventricular (LV) wall innervated by the blocked ganglion, which may impair regional contractility.

Assessment of Left-Ventricular Function
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 1998There are three distinct phases of the cardiac cycle (contraction, active relaxation, and passive relaxation) which should be examined in order to perform a thorough assessment of global left-ventricular function. Accurate measurements of left-ventricular pressure and volume are necessary to assess these phases of the cardiac cycle.

Many of the substitute endpoints used in clinical research on heart disease are parameters obtained using imaging techniques. The most frequently used endpoint is left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). At rest and at peak aerobic exercise, left ventricular contractility measurements can be obtained in a clinical setting by noninvasive methods [1 ...

Left Ventricular Systolic Function
2016The estimation of left ventricular systolic function, both qualitative and quantitative, remains essential to the perioperative management of the cardiovascular status of the surgical patient. As a result of its portability and versatility, echocardiography is now widely used for this purpose (Lang et al. in European Journal of Echocardiography 7(2):79–

Left ventricular diastolic function
2020Abnormalities of diastolic function in the critically ill have been demonstrated to be associated with important intensive care outcomes such as mortality and ventilator weaning failure. The assessment of left ventricular (LV) diastolic function refers requires the analysis of the onset, pattern, and termination of left ventricular filling as ...

Left ventricular systolic function
2020Left ventricular systolic function assessment is an essential component of the echocardiographic assessment of the critically ill patient. A wide range of diseases from sepsis to coronary ischaemia can affect the left ventricle (LV). An understanding of the events and timings in LV systole within the cardiac cycle is important, together with an ...
