Surgical removal of a left ventricular myxoma in an infant

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology, 2013
Left ventricular (LV) myxoma is particularly rare in children and has not been reported in infants. A five-month-old baby presented with a myxoma arising from the anterior, lateral, and superior aspect of the LV, causing severe left ventricular outflow ...

Reflex vascular responses to left ventricular outflow obstruction and activation of ventricular baroreceptors in dogs.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1973
Reflex vascular responses to acute left ventricular outflow obstruction were studied in anesthetized dogs. The studies were done to compare the effects of activation of ventricular baroreceptors on vascular resistance in skeletal muscle (gracilis muscle)

A One Health Approach to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common inherited cardiac disease in humans and results in significant morbidity and mortality. Research over the past 25 years has contributed enormous insight into this inherited disease particularly in the ...

Isolated non-obstructive accessory mitral valve tissue in an adult mimicking ruptured chordae

open access: yesIndian Heart Journal, 2013
Accessory mitral valve tissue is commonly associated with other congenital heart diseases and is usually detected in children causing left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.

The effects of inhomogeneities on scroll-wave dynamics in an anatomically realistic mathematical model for canine ventricular tissue [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) are lethal rhythm disorders, which are associated with the occurrence of abnormal electrical scroll waves in the heart. Given the technical limitations of imaging and probing, the in situ visualization of these waves inside cardiac tissue remains a challenge.

Radio Imaging of the NGC 1333 IRAS 4A Region: Envelope, Disks, and Outflows of a Protostellar Binary System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The NGC 1333 IRAS 4A protobinary was observed in the 1.3 cm and 6.9 mm continuum and the ammonia and SiO lines, with an angular resolution of about 0.4 arcseconds. The continuum maps show the circumstellar structures of the two protostars, A1 and A2. The A1 system is brighter and more massive than the A2 system.

Association of PET-measured myocardial flow reserve with echocardiography-estimated pulmonary artery systolic pressure in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundPulmonary hypertension (PH) is a known complication of HCM and is a strong predictor of mortality. We aim to investigate the relationship between microvascular dysfunction measured by quantitative PET and PH in HCM patients.MethodsEighty-nine ...

Combined analysis of coronary arteries and the left ventricular myocardium in cardiac CT angiography for detection of patients with functionally significant stenosis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Treatment of patients with obstructive coronary artery disease is guided by the functional significance of a coronary artery stenosis. Fractional flow reserve (FFR), measured during invasive coronary angiography (ICA), is considered the gold standard to define the functional significance of a coronary stenosis.

Ultra Fast Outflows: Galaxy-Scale Active Galactic Nucleus Feedback [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We show, using global 3D grid-based hydrodynamical simulations, that Ultra Fast Outflows (UFOs) from Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) result in considerable feedback of energy and momentum into the interstellar medium (ISM) of the host galaxy. The AGN wind interacts strongly with the inhomogeneous, two-phase ISM consisting of dense clouds embedded in a ...

Accessory and anomalous atrioventricular valvar tissue causing outflow tract obstruction Surgical implications of a heterogeneous and complex problem [PDF]

open access: yes
Objectives. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of accessory or anomalous atrioventricular valvar apparatus on relief of outflow tract obstruction.Background. Outflow tract obstruction due to accessory tissue or anomalous attachments of
