Embryology of the ventricular septum

Virchows Archiv A, Pathological Anatomy and Histology, 1981
The formation of the ventricular septum was studied in human embryos ranging from 3.6 to 25 mm CR-length. Before septation, two distinct chambers are present which will contribute to the adult ventricles. They are called the bulbus and the ventricle. The circular constriction between these chambers is the bulboventricular fold.

Pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum

Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2002
The prognosis for patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum is poor with and without conventional surgical treatment. Because of this reason, a comprehensive program of medical, transcatheter, and surgical treatment is necessary to improve the long-term outlook of these infants.

Development of the ventricular septum of the heart

Heart and Vessels, 1985
In man, development of the cardiovascular system begins in embryos of about 3 weeks ovulation age and is essentially completed 3 weeks later. Cardiovascular development, therefore, takes place very early and proceeds rapidly. This is a major reason why the study of cardiovascular development is difficult.

Aneurysm of the membranous ventricular septum

American Heart Journal, 1970
Abstract Four cases of aneurysm of the membranous ventricular septum with associated ventricular septal defects diagnosed by left ventricular angiocardiography are reported and discussed in relation to the pertinent literature.

Congenital aneurysms of the ventricular septum

American Heart Journal, 1963
Abstract Congenital aneurysms of the ventricular septum occur uncommonly. They apparently result from faulty shift of the septum and failure of proper rotation of the aorta, according to the theory originally advanced by Mall and later amplified by Lev and Saphir.

The normal closure of the ventricular septum

American Heart Journal, 1967
Abstract From the Prospective Collaborative Study on Cerebral Palsy and Mental Retardation, 64 cases of isolated ventricular septal defects have been identified. In these there has been a significantly lower mean birth weight and gestational age than in infants without heart disease, as well as in those with cardiac defects other than ventricular ...

Gerbode ventricular septum defect covered by a ballooning membranous ventricular septum

Clinical Research in Cardiology, 2012
A 55-year-old man was admitted due to a new cardiac murmur diagnosed by his general practitioner during check-up. The patient was asymptomatic and denied chest pain or dyspnea. Physical examination revealed a grade 3/6 holosystolic heart murmur at the left sternal border with increased intensity to handgrip maneuvers.

Congenital Aneurysm of the Membranous Ventricular Septum

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1965
THE MAJORITY of ventricular aneurysms are believed to be acquired; aneurysms of the membranous portion of the ventricular septum, in contrast, are thought to be congenital in origin. 1 This congenital anomaly is a rare lesion usually not diagnosed clinically and is often rather an incidental finding at autopsy; it may occur alone or with other ...

A Ventricular Septum Filleted Down the Middle

Echocardiography, 2009
Trauma inflicted by sharp penetrating objects can cause unusual and complex injuries to the heart. We present a case where penetrating trauma caused an unusual ventricular laceration that filleted the ventricular septum into two separate sections creating an artificial chamber in between.
