Adrian und Methews (1934) beobachteten erstmals nach Flickerlichtstimulation eine Beeinflussung des okzipital abgeleiteten Alpha-Rhythmus, das so-genannte „Photic driving“. Die niedrige, durch visuelle Reize induzierte Aktivitat konnte erst durch die von DAWSON (1951) eingefuhrte Methode des Averaging systematisch untersucht werden.
