Associations between memory and verbal fluency tasks
Journal of Communication Disorders, 2020Previous studies have provided inconsistent evidence concerning the association between delayed retrieval of story information from long-term memory and retrieval of words on verbal fluency tasks. The current study looks for shared retrieval mechanisms in these tasks from childhood to old age. Three-hundred and eighty participants (ages 5-91) performed

Perseverations and switching during a verbal fluency task
Alzheimer's & Dementia, 2023AbstractBackgroundPerseverations during a verbal fluency task can be immediate or delayed. There is a general agreement that delayed perseveration may occur due to impaired working memory (WM). However, experiments to establish this have been complex and time consuming.

Children's Production on Verbal and Non-Verbal Fluency Tasks
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982Children aged 6 to 13 yr. were given verbal and non-verbal fluency tasks as well as the Vocabulary and Block Design subtests of the WISC-R. The results, providing normative data, showed that the fluency tasks are age-, but not sex-dependent, and are only modestly correlated to one another and to standard measures of intelligence.

Verbal fluency task equivalence
The Clinical Neuropsychologist, 1996Abstract The research and clinical use of the verbal fluency paradigm has been hindered by the paucity of information on the equivalency of the various versions of this measure. Currently, the comparability of the two most commonly used forms of the letter fluency task, the “FAS” and “CFL” tests, is uncertain.

Verbal fluency and verbal comprehension abilities in synonym tasks
Intelligence, 1996Abstract Generating different synonym candidates and evaluating these candidates with respect to their synonymy with the stimulus word are two components of solving an open synonym task, which requires giving synonyms for a given word (cf. Janssen, Hoskens, & De Boeck, 1993). Separate subtasks were designed to identify these components.

Sex differences in clustering and switching in verbal fluency tasks
Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, 2006Sex differences in executive speech tasks, favoring women, have been noted in behavioral studies and functional imaging studies. In the present study, the clustering and switching components of semantic and phonemic verbal fluency tests were examined in 40 healthy men and 40 healthy women.

Clustering strategies on tasks of verbal fluency in Parkinson's disease
Neuropsychologia, 1992The verbal output of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) was analyzed for semantic and phonemic clusters on tasks of verbal fluency. One task required cued retrieval by semantic category (i.e. animals), and one required non-cued retrieval by initial letter (e.g. words beginning with 'F'). Nondemented PD patients (N = 25) produced significantly fewer
