Simultaneous tDCS‐rTMS stimulation to regulate the language network and improve language ability in Landau–Kleffner syndrome

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Landau–Kleffner syndrome (LKS) is a rare epileptic syndrome causing language regression. In this preliminary study, we investigated the effects of simultaneous transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on LKS patients and the underlying mechanism based on magnetoencephalography (MEG) network ...

Nonseizure symptoms and broader seizure impacts in patients with Dravet syndrome and Lennox–Gastaut syndrome in clinical practice settings: Results from a multinational survey

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To assess the burden of Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (LGS), including managing seizure and nonseizure symptoms, on patients and caregivers. Methods Data were drawn from the Adelphi Real World DS and LGS Disease Specific Programme™, a cross‐sectional survey in Asia (China, Japan), Europe (France, Germany, Italy ...

A systematic survey of the measures used to identify postoperative changes in language function following epilepsy surgery

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Epilepsy surgery, particularly dominant temporal lobe resection, poses a significant risk of post‐surgical language decline. There is considerable heterogeneity in the language assessment protocols employed across epilepsy surgery centers. This in turn is reflected in the observed variability in the incidence of language decline reported in ...

Affective Dimensions in Maternal Voice During Child Feeding in Mothers With and Without Eating Disorder History—Findings From a Machine Learning Analysis of Speech Data

open access: yesEuropean Eating Disorders Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Eating disorder (ED) history may impact mother‐child communication during mealtimes and contribute to transgenerational transmission of ED. This study employed machine learning (ML) to identify speech characteristics during mother‐child feeding interactions, aiming for investigating whether vocalised affective characteristics differ ...

Verbal Approval and Anxiety in Serial-Verbal Learning

Psychological Reports, 1968
In two experiments, each using 40 college student Ss, level of manifest anxiety and the presence or absence of verbal approval by E for a correct anticipation were varied. Verbal approval led to a decrement in performance for high-anxiety Ss and superior learning for low-anxiety Ss, whereas without verbal approval either high-anxiety Ss were superior ...

cumulated data. The theorist must wait until late in this process for interest ing principles and structure ; meanwhile, he is repelled by a forbidding thicket of data. Such a field is difficult to review, too. This brief resume concentrates on certain relatively structured areas.

REPETITION AND VERBAL LEARNING

British Journal of Psychology, 1965
An analysis is developed of the possible consequences of presenting for learning an item amongst others in a list, and a hypothesis is generated about the factors determining which of these outcomes will occur. A technique for measuring the effect of repetition is described and discussed.

Verbalization as a Factor in Learning

Child Development, 1932
five familiar animals (a cat, dog, rabbit, bear, and monkey). These were 3 inches in height, and were made of celluloid; as the celluloid proved to be too light to withstand daily handling, a filling of plaster of paris was poured into the interior of each object, in order to give weight and stability.

A Statistical Description of Verbal Learning

Psychometrika, 1952
Free-recall verbal learning is analyzed in terms of a probability model. The general theory assumes that the probability of recalling a word on any trial is completely determined by the number of times the word has been recalled on previous trials. Three particular cases of this general theory are examined.
