Compost legacy effects in active roadside restoration: Medium‐term shifts in plant succession

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 2, April–June 2026.
Roadside restoration experiment established on volcanic tephra following road construction in Andean Patagonia. A single application of municipal (MC) or biosolids (BC) compost rapidly increased plant cover compared with untreated controls (C) but led to distinct, exotic‐dominated plant communities over 6 years.

Genetic drift precluded adaptation of an insect seed predator to a novel host plant in a long-term selection experiment. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Host specialization is considered a primary driver of the enormous diversity of herbivorous insects. Trade-offs in host use are hypothesized to promote this specialization, but they have mostly been studied in generalist herbivores.

Characterization of the Omnivorous Lygus lineolaris Diet in a Strawberry Field by Metataxonomy

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study employs metataxonomy to reveal the extensive omnivorous diet of Lygus lineolaris in a strawberry field, identifying 475 host taxa and confirming active ingestion across plant and prey sources. We introduce a novel coefficient of omnivory, demonstrating the species' strong herbivorous bias while highlighting its dietary flexibility and ...

Understory plant species recruitment and expansion spur community shifts following forest restoration treatments

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Restoration treatments have been implemented in many of the dry conifer forests of the western United States. By decreasing forest density and increasing forest heterogeneity, these treatments are generally effective at meeting their primary objective of reducing the risk of uncharacteristically severe wildfire.

Alien plant species on roadsides of the northwestern Patagonian steppe (Argentina).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
The introduction of alien species represents one of the greatest threats to biodiversity worldwide. Highway construction increases the dispersal and invasion of exotic plant species.

Biological invasions: a global assessment of geographic distributions, long‐term trends, and data gaps

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 6, Page 2542-2583, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions are one of the major drivers of biodiversity decline and have been shown to have far‐reaching consequences for society and the economy. Preventing the introduction and spread of alien species represents the most effective solution to reducing their impacts on nature and human well‐being.

Mock Plant Communities and a Large Mammal Case Study Reveal ITS2 Primer Bias Against Graminoids

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
DNA fecal metabarcoding has greatly advanced herbivore diet analysis, but primer selection plays an important role in mitigating PCR amplification bias, affecting ecological inferences. In this study, using plant mock communities and a large mammalian herbivore case study, we evaluated two primer pairs targeting the ITS2 region.

Viability of Wildflower Seeds After Mesophilic Anaerobic Digestion in Lab-Scale Biogas Reactors

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
The use of wildflower species as biogas feedstock carries the risk that their seeds survive anaerobic digestion (AD) and cause weed problems if spread with the digestate.

The Promising Medical Applications of Verbascum Thapsus in Relation to Endophytic Species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The endophytic species of Verbascum Thapsus and their secondary metabolites, are analyzed for possible medicinal applications. Endophytic Fungi were derived from the root, leaf and stem samples of Verbascum Thapsus, better known as Common Mullein, from ...
