P1-26: Influence of Depth from Luminance Contrast on Vergence Eye Movements

open access: yesi-Perception, 2012
A vergence eye movement is the simultaneous movement of both eyes in opposite directions to obtain or maintain single binocular vision. It has been shown that a vergence movement is induced not only by binocular depth but also by the changing size of the

Correction of Saccade-Induced Midline Errors in Responses to Pure Disparity Vergence Stimuli.

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research, 2009
Purely symmetrical vergence stimuli aligned along the midline (cyclopean axis) require only a pure vergence response. Yet, in most responses saccades are observed and these saccades must either produce an error in the desired midline response or correct ...

The influence of vergence adaptation on open-loop vergence dynamics

open access: yesVision Research, 2009
The objectives of this experiment were to measure the effect of sustained convergence on the open-loop vergence peak velocity and open-loop vergence amplitude, and to assess the correlation between changes in the phoria and changes in open-loop vergence peak velocity induced by sustained convergence.

Impact of Abdominoperineal Resection on Postoperative Male Sexual Function After Minimally Invasive Rectal Cancer Surgery: A Subgroup Analysis From the LANDMARC Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Abdominoperineal resection (APR) after minimally invasive rectal cancer surgery was associated with significantly higher rates of erectile and early ejaculatory dysfunction compared with anal‐sparing surgery. Although ejaculatory function showed partial recovery over time, erectile dysfunction persisted up to 12 months postoperatively.

Relationship Between the Product of Pre‐Treatment Neutrophil and Monocyte Counts and Clinical Outcomes in Rectal Cancer With Suspected Lateral Lymph Node Metastasis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim A novel systemic inflammatory response marker, the neutrophil × monocyte value (NM value), has been identified as a negative predictive factor for responses to chemoradiotherapy in rectal cancer. However, the clinical implications of the NM value remain unknown.

Consequences of Traumatic Brain Injury for Human Vergence Dynamics

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2015
Purpose: Traumatic brain injury involving loss of consciousness has focal effects in the human brainstem, suggesting that it may have particular consequences for eye movement control.

On the Prospects for African Philosophy in Australia

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper grapples with the situation of people of African descent in Australia by working through the constitution of the body of academic philosophy in the country. It contends with the parochialism of the Australian philosophical community and the prospects for the cultivation of greater pluralism. Taking African philosophy as one possible

Cognitive Vergence Recorded with a Webcam-Based Eye-Tracker during an Oddball Task in an Elderly Population

open access: yesSensors
(1) Background: Our previous research provides evidence that vergence eye movements may significantly influence cognitive processing and could serve as a reliable measure of cognitive issues. The rise of consumer-grade eye tracking technology, which uses

Vergence Eye Movements: From Basic Science to Clinical Application

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research, 2020
The abstract book of the last European Conference on Eye Movements (Martinez-Conde, Martinez-Otero, Compte, & Groner, 2019) lists abstracts of 373 presentations, but less than five percent investigate vergence eye movements, i.e.
