Iron homeostasis in the annual and perennial stem zones of Arabis alpina
Iron accumulates in secondary growth tissues in the perennial stem zone and is correlated with particular gene expression patterns in the perennial model plant Arabis alpina. Abstract Plants store nutrients, including the micronutrient iron, in bioavailable forms to support growth in subsequent seasons. The perennial lifestyle is preponderant in nature.

Role of endogenous growth regulators in vernalization of seeds of radish (Raphanus sativus L.)
In embryos and cotyledons of seeds of the radish cv. `Tetra Iłówiecka' (which needs 20 days of vernalization) and cv. 'Saxa' (which flowers without vernalization) germinating at a vernalizing temperature of 5°C, the levels of auxins, gibberellins ...

Natural Arabidopsis thaliana accessions showed remarkable plasticity in both life‐cycle phenology and whole‐genome gene expression patterns in in natura field experiments. Nevertheless, local adaptation in fitness‐related life‐history traits can also be detected at the whole‐genome gene expression level.

Abstract Introduction Temporary ponds in the Mediterranean climate have a high conservation value, but many have been severely destroyed or degraded. Pond restoration and new pond creation have been engaged widely. Evaluations of the success of such operations are generally carried out over 10–15 years and show divergent results over this timeframe. In

Bifurcation in epigenetics: implications in development, proliferation and diseases
Cells often exhibit different and stable phenotypes from the same DNA sequence. Robustness and plasticity of such cellular states are controlled by diverse transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms, among them the modification of biochemical marks on ...

Abstract Grain characteristics are the cumulative product of growth and development throughout the growing season. In barley (Hordeum vulgare), these traits determine the grain's value for malting purposes. The ability to accurately predict the genetic merit for malting quality is of great interest for barley breeding programs. Same‐season selection on

SMART: Speedy Measurement of Arabidopsis Rosette Traits
Abstract Most computer vision‐ and machine learning‐based plant phenotyping systems compute traits such as shape and size rather than the color distribution of the plant surface, even though color can provide important insights into plant physiology. Therefore, we developed Speedy Measurement of Arabidopsis Rosette Traits (SMART), an open‐source plant ...

Abstract Nitrogen overapplication remains a persistent challenge in winter wheat production, contributing to low nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), higher production costs, and increased environmental externalities. Sensor‐based nitrogen management systems, such as the nitrogen‐rich strip (NRS), were developed to provide in‐season information on crop ...
