On the Lichen generaPlacocarpus andPlacidiopsis (Verrucariaceae)

Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1985
Verrucaria schaereri (Fr.)Nyl. is accorded generic status asPlacocarpusTrev. emend.O. Breuss. The main differences between the two genera concern the thallus anatomy and the spores which are halonate inPlacocarpus. The following new combinations are proposed:Placocarpus schaereri (Fr.)O. Breuss andPlacidiopsis cinerascens (Nyl.)O. Breuss.

The Lichen Genus Henrica (Verrucariaceae) New to America

open access: yesThe Bryologist, 2002
Abstract The pyrenocarpous lichen Henrica americana is described as new. It is the second known species of the genus that is related to Polyblastia. The new species is characterized by small, brown, umbilicate squamules on a black hypothallus; black, double-walled perithecia perched on the squamules or on the stipes; and brown muriform ascospores.

Molecular phylogeny and systematics of Polyblastia (Verrucariaceae, Eurotiomycetes) and allied genera [PDF]

open access: yesMycological Research, 2008
Phylogenetic relationships of the lichen genus Polyblastia and closely related taxa in the family Verrucariaceae (Verrucariales, Chaetothyriomycetidae) were studied. A total of 130 sets of sequences (nuLSU rDNA, nuITS rDNA and RPB1 region A-D), including 129 newly generated sequences, were analysed.

A New Species of Anthracocarpon (Verrucariaceae) from Argentina

Bryologist, 2008
Anthracocarpon andinum, a new terricolous species, is described from northern Argentina. The most important differences from A. virescens (Zahlbr.) Breuss are in thallus morphology and size and shape of the ascospores. Anthracocarpon andinum develops a squamulose thallus covered by a sulcate epinecral layer. The squamules of A.

Molecular data confirm the position of Flakea papillata in the Verrucariaceae

open access: yesThe Bryologist, 2009
Flakea papillata is a predominantly tropical, widespread lichen characterized by flake-like thalli of narrowly arranged, irregularly wrinkled, small bluish-green lobes, whose taxonomic position was unclear. The lichen shows superficial similarity with either algal colonies, bryophytes or fern prothallia, but the production of zeorin and other ...
