AbstractA case of 80‐year‐old man with a verruciform xanthoma on the right side of the scrotum was reported. The tumor was examined histologically by light and electron microscope. We surveyed the literature and found 25 Japanese cases and 11 foreign cases in the skin. We also reviewed the pathogenesis and the location of this disease.

Verruciform xanthoma of the esophagus

Verruciform xanthoma is a distinctive lesion of oral mucosa and genital skin. It can be solitary or multifocal, as well as sporadic or associated with inflammatory, autoimmune, immunodeficient, metabolic, neoplastic, or congenital diseases. To our knowledge, it has not yet been described in the esophagus.

Verruciform xanthoma

Twenty-one cases of verruciform xanthoma are reported, bringing to fifty the total cases in the literature. The lesion was found most often in middle-aged persons, and the most common location was the gingiva or alveolar ridge. The cause of the verruciform xanthoma is still uncertain.
