The Semaphorin 3E (Sema3E)‐Plexin‐D1 pathway mediated by C/EBPα and C/EBPβ downstream of the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge plays important roles in the mouse preovulatory ovary. Timely activation and suppression of this pathway during the preovulatory stage are crucial for ovulation, corpus luteum formation, and proper angiogenesis.

Wound infections induce gcFGF8a expression, which subsequently executes direct antimicrobial activity to suppress local infection while simultaneously activating the FGFR4‐mediated ERK/AKT‐mTOR signaling cascade, thereby upregulating HIF1α and enhancing glycolysis. These coordinated actions synergistically promote tissue repair by eliminating pathogens

Chromosomal mapping, differential origin and evolution of the
S100 proteins are calcium-binding proteins, which exist only in vertebrates and which constitute a large protein family. The origin and evolution of the S100 family in vertebrate lineages remain a challenge.

In the tripartite‐species model, Drosophila larvae stimulate lactate production through excreting digestion enzymes. S. marcescens population senses a cue of lactate and tends to diverge into virulent and reduced virulence subclusters with remarkable heterogeneity to metabolize carbon metabolism and counter colonization resistance, giving a fitness ...

The Natural History of Teneurins: A Billion Years of Evolution in Three Key Steps
The entire evolutionary history of the animal gene family, Teneurin, can be summed up in three key steps, plus three salient footnotes. In a shared ancestor of all bilaterians, the first step began with gene fusions that created a protein with an amino ...

JUNCTIONS BETWEEN INTIMATELY APPOSED CELL MEMBRANES IN THE VERTEBRATE BRAIN
Certain junctions between ependymal cells, between astrocytes, and between some electrically coupled neurons have heretofore been regarded as tight, pentalaminar occlusions of the intercellular cleft.

Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures and Vertebral Augmentation [PDF]
Vertebral fractures account for ~27% of all osteoporotic fractures in both men and women. The economic burden is substantial and growing: osteoporosis is expected to affect 14 million people by the year 2020. There is substantial morbidity associated with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) including decreased quality of life, reduced ...

We demonstrate that Foxp1± mice, modeling FOXP1 haploinsufficiency, exhibit behavioral deficits, striatal neuroinflammatory changes including altered microglial complexity and synaptic pruning, and markedly reduced Pde10a expression. Pde10a inhibition starting immediately after birth restores Foxp1± behavior, microglial morphology, and pruning ...

VERTEBRATES AND EVOLUTION [PDF]
Patterns and Processes of Vertebrate Evolution is a masterful overview of evolution as it is understood by many vertebrate paleontologists and others today. The author is best known for beautifully illustrated descriptions and synthetic comparative studies of Paleozoic amphibians and, more recently, marine reptiles.
