Bandgap‐engineered AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructures exhibit wavelength‐selective dual‐polarity photoelectrochemistry, switching from photocathodic to photoanodic response depending on excitation wavelength. The polarity transition is governed by band‐selective absorption, built‐in electric‐field‐driven carrier transport, and interfacial charge‐transfer ...

A shape‐memory microneedle system enables reproductive hormone therapy through a single transdermal insertion. The X‐shaped device sustains follicle‐stimulating hormone release for three days, and mild heating restores the O shape to trigger burst human chorionic gonadotropin release.

Microring quantum cascade surface emitting lasers
We miniaturize a vertically coupled in-plane whispering gallery mode cavity incorporating a quantum cascade gain medium, aiming to realize the mid-infrared counterpart to the vertical cavity surface emitting laser.

Numerical simulation of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers
The semiconductor laser simulator MINILASE is being extended to simulate vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). The electronic system analysis for VCSELs is identical to that for edge emitting lasers. A brief discussion of the capabilities of MINILASE in this domain will be presented.

Shaping Matter with Acoustic Waves: From Particles to Functional Structures
Acoustic‐directed assembly is reviewed as a materials‐oriented strategy for organizing particles, polymers, metals, and biological systems into functional structures. The review distinguishes reversible manipulation from permanent structure formation through medium fixation, particle fixation, and in situ material generation, highlighting routes toward

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Large mode-volume, large beta, photonic crystal laser resonator
We propose an optical resonator formed from the coupling of 13, L2 defects in a triangular-lattice photonic crystal slab. Using a tight-binding formalism, we optimized the coupled-defect cavity design to obtain a resonator with predicted single-mode ...

Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser With a Chiral Nematic Liquid Crystal Overlay
We demonstrate measurement results of the light emission of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) with chiral liquid crystal (CLC) overlay (CLC-VCSEL). Two different CLC materials with different chiral-phase temperature range are presented and
