Evolution of the Kippenhahn-Schlueter Prominence Model Magnetic Field Under Cowling Resistivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present the results from 1.5D diffusion simulations of the Kippenhahn-Schlueter prominence model magnetic field evolution under the influence of the ambipolar terms of Cowling resistivity.

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

The effect of the Coriolis force on Kelvin-Helmholtz-driven mixing in protoplanetary disks

open access: yes, 2005
We study the stability of proto-planetary disks with vertical velocity gradients in their equilibrium rotation rates; such gradients are expected to develop when dust settles into the midplane.

An impedance approach to reduce the contact-instability whilst drilling with active heave compensation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The bit-bounce, or contact-instability, phenomenon which occurs in the drill string suspended from a floating vessel with an active drill string compensator to maintain a steady weight on the drill bit is investigated.

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

The galactic dynamo effect due to Parker-shearing instability of magnetic flux tubes. II. Numerical simulations and the nonlinear evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
In this paper we continue investigations of the Parker-shearing instability performing numerical simulations of the magnetic flux tube dynamics in the thin flux-tube approximation. We show that evolution of flux tubes resulting from numerical simulations

Dust sedimentation and self-sustained Kelvin-Helmholtz turbulence in protoplanetary disk mid-planes. I. Radially symmetric simulations

open access: yes, 2006
We perform numerical simulations of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in the mid-plane of a protoplanetary disk. A two-dimensional corotating slice in the azimuthal--vertical plane of the disk is considered where we include the Coriolis force and the ...

Flow instabilities in a vertical tube reboiler [PDF]

open access: yesWIT Transactions on Engineering Sciences, 2014
The dynamic thermohydraulic behaviour of a vertical tube reboiler is investigated by experiments and by simulation. Natural circulation reboilers are widely used in chemical industries, especially as column evaporators. Their main components are an evaporator and a separator which are connected in a loop.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.
