Nonlinear simulations of magnetic Taylor-Couette flow with current-free helical magnetic fields [PDF]
The magnetorotational instability (MRI) in cylindrical Taylor-Couette flow with external helical magnetic field is simulated for infinite and finite aspect ratios.

Vertical Shear Instability and Photoevaporative Winds
In recent years hydrodynamical (HD) models have become important to describe the gas kinematics in protoplanetary disks, especially in combination with models of photoevaporation and/or magnetically driven winds. Our aim is to investigate how vertical shear instability (VSI) could influence the thermally driven winds on the surface of protoplanetary ...

Vertical shear instability with partially reflecting boundary conditions
ABSTRACT The vertical shear instability (VSI) is widely believed to be effective in driving turbulence in protoplanetary discs (PPDs). Prior studies on VSI exclusively exploit the reflecting boundary conditions (BCs) at the disc surfaces. VSI depends critically on the boundary behaviours of waves at the disc surfaces.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Prediction of development height of water-conducting fracture zone based on rotational subsidence
The development height of water-conducting fracture zone(WCFZ) is an important parameter for water disaster treatment in coal mine roof. In this paper, the failure process of mining overlying rock is analyzed, and the rock instability failure in the ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Vertical pairing of identical particles suspended in the plasma sheath
It is shown experimentally that vertical pairing of two identical microspheres suspended in the sheath of a radio-frequency (rf) discharge at low gas pressures (a few Pa), appears at a well defined instability threshold of the rf power. The transition is
