Modeling of flicker in wind turbine on a green building due to vertical wind shear
2014 IEEE 8th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO2014), 2014Paper confers a newfangled empirical model to figure, flicker, instigated in the horizontal axis, upwind turbine, due to vertical wind shear, in continuous operation. Postulations, boundary curbs and limitations of the model are also depicted. In the proposed model, vertical wind shear, number of blades, blade length and tower height are echoed.

Vertical Wind Shear Associated with Left-Moving Supercells
Weather and Forecasting, 2002Vertical wind shear parameters are presented for 60 left-moving supercells across the United States, 53 of which produced severe hail ($1.9 cm). Hodographs corresponding to environments of left-moving supercells have a tendency to be more linear than those of their right-moving supercell counterparts.

On the frictional influence of horizontal wind shear on vertical motion
Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1946AbstractIt is suggested that a reason for the association between anticyclonic vorticity and subsidence lies in the divergence produced by the frictional forces when a strong horizontal wind shear is present. In particular the region just to the south of a strong westerly upper wind (northern latitudes) is favourable for subsidence.A case in which such

On the vertical wind shear of Saturn's Equatorial Jet at cloud level
Icarus, 2006Abstract In this work we analyze and compare the vertical cloud structure of Saturn's Equatorial Zone in two different epochs: the first one close to the Voyagers flybys (1979–1981) and the second one in 2004, when the Cassini spacecraft entered its orbit around the planet.

The effects of vertical wind shear on the evolution of convective clouds
Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1975AbstractThe effects of ambient wind shear Uo on the evolution of an isolated three‐dimensional convective cloud are studied. Sixteen cases are considered which differ from one another both in the value of U′0 in the initial value of the energy of atmospheric instability per unit height of the unstable layer, E0.

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Operational Modal Analysis in Sheared Wind Flow
2012There has been increased interest in implementing co-located renewable energy generation systems in urban areas, and vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are a candidate technology for capturing the unsteady, omnidirectional winds that are typical of an urban environment.

Asymmetric Wind Expansion of an Idealized Simulated Tropical Cyclone by Vertical Wind Shear
Journal of the Atmospheric SciencesAbstract This study investigates the impact of vertical wind shear (VWS) on vortex size expansion using a series of idealized numerical experiments. A control experiment (CTL) without ambient flow is compared with the experiments with 6 m s −1 (SH6) and 12 m s

The influence of environmental vertical wind shear on hurricane eye formation
2010Studies of tropical storms recognize eye formation as an important indicator of intensification toward a mature cyclone. However, the reason why some tropical storms form eyes while others do not is not well understood. Our goal is to identify large-scale environmental conditions that favor or inhibit hurricane eye formation.
