Possible causes of the vertical hydrochemical zonality of artesian water
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 19571. The problem of the vertical hydrochemical zonality of artesian water must be regarded in its association with the hydration of ions in solutions and the peculiarities of the thermal motions of ions and water molecules in solutions. 2. Under the conditions of the slow downward movement of artesian water these peculiarities result in ...

The vertical structure of the zonal pressure gradient in the eastern equatorial Pacific
Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1984CTD data from the EPOCS and NORPAX experiments were used to construct a mean zonal pressure gradient profile between 110°W and 150°W for the 1979 to 1981 pre‐El Niño time period. The mean zonal pressure gradient referenced to 100 dbar had a value of −4.5 × 10−7 m s−2 at the surface and decreased to within two standard errors of zero at 200 dbar.

Hydromagnetic planetary-gravity waves in vertically sheared zonal flow and zonal magnetic field
ZAMP Zeitschrift fr angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 1981Hydromagnetic planetary-gravity waves propagating in a basic state zonal flow and zonal magnetic field both of which are sheared in the vertical direction are studied. It is found that the waves possess four critical levels at each of which they exhibit the valve effect behaviour, an effect due to the variation of density with latitude.

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1987
Abstract The probability density distribution of the speed, horizontal shear and vertical shear of the zonal-mean wind are computed from a 16-winter NMC dataset in a study designed to complement an earlier study of the planetary-scale wave amplitude probability density distribution.

Zonal distribution and seasonal vertical migration of copepod assemblages in the Scotia Sea
Polar Biology, 2000Large, biomass-dominant Southern Ocean copepod species have been much studied, but small and mesopelagic species also play major roles in these ecosystems. However, little is known of some basic aspects of their ecology. To address this, the abundances of 23 copepod species and genera were analysed from 72 stations sampled during the Discovery ...

Vertical Structure and Interannual Variability of Tropical Zonal Winds
Journal of Climate, 1990Abstract Geographical and seasonal variations of the variance and vertical structure of interannual anomalies of seasonally averaged zonal winds are calculated from rawinsonde records at tropical stations between 80°E and 140°W, the longitudes spanned by the “Walker Circulation.” Wind anomalies are negatively correlated in the upper and lower ...

Vertical-Zonal Propagation of a Stationary Planetary Wave Packet
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1981Abstract In order to explain why the Aleutian high stands out in the winter stratosphere, a complex Fourier analysis is made of simulated and observed stationary waves. It is found that in the troposphere the envelope of the time mean geopotential height consisting of wavenumbers 1 ∼ 3 attains its major and minor maxima in the Pacific and Atlantic ...

The criterion of dynamic stability of zonal motion including the vertical shear
Geofisica pura e applicata, 1951Many writers treated on the problem of dynamic instability of westerly flow due to the excessive horizontal shear, and the present author discusses the corresponding dynamic instability due to the vertical shear. The critical vertical shear in indifferent stratification is given by the condition — the meridional component of absolute vorticity vanishes,

CONDITIONS OF THE VERTICAL SOIL ZONALITY IN PHYTOCENOSES IN THE SOUTH-EASTERN KAZAKHSTAN
3i intellect idea innovation – интеллект идея инновацияOne of the key priorities in the development of the country’s agro-industrial complex is the management of pasture resources, with a particular emphasis on their rational use. In Kazakhstan, characterized by its arid climate, there are two main approaches to pasture irrigation. The first relies on open water sources (streams, springs, rivers, and lakes)

Large scale vertical eddies in the atmosphere and the energy of the mean zonal flow
Geofisica pura e applicata, 1963The zonal eddy stress across horizontal surfaces due to large scale vertical motions was evaluated for two months from data for the northern hemisphere for a number of levels up to 50 mb. From this information and from the corresponding distributions for each of the two months of the mean zonal winds, the rate of transformation of kinetic energy from ...
