Low‐latitude zonal and vertical ion drifts seen by DE 2

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1989
Horizontal and vertical ion drift data from the DE 2 spacecraft have been used to determine average zonal and vertical plasma flow (electric field) characteristics in the ±26° dip latitude region during a time of high solar activity. The data base consists of over 800 equatorial passes.

Some analytical vertical profiles of monsoonal zonal wind over India

Archiv für Meteorologie, Geophysik und Bioklimatologie Serie A, 1980
A polynomial function having eight constants and a non-polynomial analytical function having six constants are fitted to the observed mean vertical profile of the monsoonal zonal wind over Indian region. The constants are related to the observed position and magnitude of the upper level easterly and the lower level westerly jet streams, the level of ...

The influence of vertical variation of zonal wind on the response curve in atmospheric oscillations

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1969
AbstractThe Earth is treated as a flat non‐rotating plane across which tidal forces sweep from east to west. It is shown that one effect of zonal wind variation is to replace the constant quantity σ0, (iσ0 = δ/δt) by another quantity σ which varies as the zonal wind. This results in an ‘effective equivalent depth’ whose value varies with the wind.It is
