Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Biaxial Very High Cycle Fatigue Testing and Failure Mechanism of Welded Joints in Structural Steel Q345

open access: yesCrystals
The very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) strength of welded joints made of high-strength structural materials is generally poor, which poses a serious threat to the long life and reliability of the structural components.

Multi-timescale analysis of fatigue crack growth on interfaces via cohesive-zone models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper describes a new non-linear finite-element formulation to analyse fatigue debonding or delamination, along predefined interfaces, which is multi-scale in time. At the small timescale level, cyclic loading and the related oscillating response are

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Review of Multiaxial Testing for Very High Cycle Fatigue: From ‘Conventional’ to Ultrasonic Machines

open access: yesMachines, 2020
Fatigue is one of the main causes for in service failure of mechanical components and structures. With the development of new materials, such as high strength aluminium or titanium alloys with different microstructures from steels, materials no longer ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

FATIGUE CRACKING MECHANISMS OF TITANIUM ALLOY VT3-1 IN VERY-HIGH-CYCLE-FATIGUE REGIME

open access: yesНаучный вестник МГТУ ГА, 2016
Investigations and tests of specimens of VT3-1 titanium alloy were done in Very-High-Cycle-Fatigue regime. Specimens were manufactured from compressor disks of D30-KU engine, and tests under frequency 20 kHz performed on the special test-bed in ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Effect of autofrettage in the thick-walled cylinder with a radial cross-bore [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The effect of autofrettage on the stress level in thick-walled cylinders with a radial cross-bore is investigated by applying inelastic finite element analysis with cyclic pressure loading.
