Audiological and vestibular function tests in hypothyroidism

The Laryngoscope, 1977
AbstractA battery of audiological and vestibular function tests have been performed in 72 cases of confirmed hypothyroidism. The severity of hypothyroidism was graded as mild, moderate or severe depending upon serum protein‐bound iodine estimation. The incidence of hearing impairment, tinnitus and vertigo was correlated with the severity of the disease

The interpretation of clinical tests of peripheral vestibular function

The Laryngoscope, 2012
AbstractRecently, new clinical tests of canal and otolith function have been introduced. They rest on sound anatomical and physiological evidence; however, the interpretation of the results of these tests has only recently been clarified. This review summarizes the anatomical and physiological evidence underpinning the tests of both canal and otolith ...

Relevance of function tests in the diagnosis of vestibular disorders

Clinical Otolaryngology, 1994
The diagnostic value or relevance of a vestibular function test is dependent on the whole clinical and functional context of each particular case. It is not the ability to show 'abnormality' in a high number of patients complaining of whatever kind of vertigo, that indicates the relevance of a function test.

Vestibular function testing in the 21st century: video head impulse test, vestibular evoked myogenic potential, video nystagmography; which tests will provide answers?

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2021
Purpose of review To most neurologists, assessing the patient with vertigo is an unpleasant and worrisome task. A structured history and focused examination can be complemented by carefully selected laboratory tests, to reach an early and accurate ...

Assessing vestibular function: which tests, when?

Journal of Neurology, 2000
Vertigo and dizziness are common complaints encountered in clinical practice. The patient's history and a thorough otoneurological evaluation are essential for identifying the specific pathology behind the patient's complaints. If the patient reports an illusion of movement (vertigo), this most likely indicates an imbalance within the vestibular system.

Association between vestibular function and rotational spatial orientation perception in older adults

Journal of Vestibular Research-Equilibrium & Orientation, 2021
BACKGROUND: Spatial orientation is a complex process involving vestibular sensory input and possibly cognitive ability. Previous research demonstrated that rotational spatial orientation was worse for individuals with profound bilateral vestibular ...

Video Head Impulse Test Results in Patients With a Vestibular Schwannoma-Sensitivity and Correlation With Other Vestibular System Function Tests, Hearing Acuity, and Tumor Size.

Otology and Neurotology, 2020
OBJECTIVE No previous studies have investigated a vestibular function test battery combining the Video Head Impulse Test (VHIT), the caloric test, and the cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) test.

Vestibular function testing

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2007
This review provides an overview of vestibular function testing and highlights the new techniques that have emerged during the past 5 years.Since the introduction of video-oculography as an alternative to electro-oculography for the assessment of vestibular-induced eye movements, the investigation of the utricle has become a part of vestibular function
