A partial‐inner‐cladding optical fiber (PICOF) is developed to suppress photothermal artifacts in fluorescent fiber‐optic thermometry by isolating the sensing layer from regions prone to photothermal effects. This structural design strategy enables high‐fidelity operation at elevated excitation power, achieving high accuracy (maximum absolute error ...

Vestibular evaluation with video head impulse test in pediatric cochlear implant patients
Background: The cochlear implant (CI) is effective for rehabilitating patients with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. However, its placement and use have been associated with various complications, such as those affecting the vestibular ...

The Effects of Cochlear Implantation on Vestibular Function [PDF]
Objective1) Measure vestibular function before and after cochlear implantation (CI) using a battery of tests covering the full range of stimulus frequencies over which the normal angular vestibulo‐ocular reflex (VOR) stabilizes gaze.MethodsSemicircular canal (SCC) function was assayed using head impulse test during 3‐dimensional scleral search coil eye

Statistical shape modeling of the human inner ear through micro‐computed tomography imaging
In this study, 54 cadaveric temporal bone specimens underwent high‐resolution micro‐CT imaging. Images were semi‐automatically segmented and converted to 3D surface mesh models for morphological measurement and analysis. Statistical shape models were created for the inner ear, cochlea, and vestibular system, as well as for sex‐ and side‐based subgroups.

Abstract The Pleistocene is a key period for understanding the evolutionary history and palaeobiogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The species was first documented in southeastern Iberia at the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and appears to have rapidly spread throughout Southwestern Europe, where it was found in numerous ...

Abstract Neandertals are known to possess very distinctive traits in their bony labyrinth morphology, such as an inferiorly positioned posterior canal and a very low number of turns in the cochlea. Hence, the inner ear has been often used to assess the Neandertal status of fragmentary fossils.

Abstract Extant turtles occupy freshwater, marine, and terrestrial habitats, and their nasal region provides important evidence for the evolution of respiration‐ and sensory‐related cranial morphology. However, developmental data on the turtle nasal capsule remain limited, particularly in Pleurodira.

Influence of cochlear implantation on the vestibular function
The aim of the present study was to examine the influence of cochlear implantation on vestibular function. The function of the horizontal semicircular canal, the saccular function, and the incidence of vestibular symptoms were assessed before and after cochlear implantation. Twenty unilaterally cochlear implant patients were evaluated preoperatively, 1
