Neurogenesis and astrogenesis contribute to vestibular compensation in the neurectomized adult cat: cellular and behavioral evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Neurogenesis occurs in some regions of the adult mammalian brain and gives rise to neurons integrated into functional networks. In pathological or postlesional conditions, neurogenesis and astrogenesis can also occur, as demonstrated in the deafferented ...

Combining the tunneled coronally advanced flap (TCAF) with internal frenectomy–vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access (IF‐VISTA) for the treatment of mandibular anterior gingival recessions: A technique report

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Gingival recession (GR) defects in the mandibular anterior region represent a particularly challenging scenario in periodontal plastic surgery, owing to a thin soft tissue phenotype, minimal keratinized tissue, limited vestibular depth, and the frequent presence of a prominent labial frenum.

The vestibular implant

open access: yes
Patients with damaged balance organs often face debilitating challenges in daily life, ranging from physical instability and blurred vision during movement to cognitive difficulties. Currently, no standard treatment exists to fully restore the natural function of these organs.

A case series shows a relation between intracochlear electric field distribution and vestibular co-stimulation with cochlear implants

open access: yesScientific Reports
The objective of this study was to investigate the relation between the electric field distribution within the cochlea during cochlear implant stimulation and the electrical vestibular co-stimulation measured by vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (e ...

Subperiosteal circumferential connective tissue graft for vertical implant soft tissue augmentation

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Vertical implant soft tissue augmentation is indicated to optimize esthetic outcomes in cases of peri‐implant soft tissue deficiency or dehiscence, particularly when the peri‐implant mucosa is exposed during a full smile. This manuscript describes the use of a subperiosteal circumferential connective tissue graft (SC CTG) for ...

Combining Multi-Canal Vestibular Implant Stimulation to Restore the Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex in 3D

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Introduction: Vestibular implants targeting the semi-circular canals might offer a potential treatment approach for vestibulopathy patients. Electrical stimulation is provided to all three canals to restore gaze stabilization in all three planes of space.

Guided bone regeneration using CAD‐CAM zirconia barriers: A case series with digital evaluation of bone changes

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Background CAD/CAM zirconia barriers represent an advanced option for guided bone regeneration (GBR) in three‐dimensional defects, integrating mechanical stability, biocompatibility, and digital precision. The objectives of this case series were to evaluate, clinically, histologically, and three‐dimensionally, the use of customized zirconia barriers ...

Vestibular dysfunction and postural balance in cochlear implant users: a narrative literature review

open access: yes, 2018
Cochlear implants directly stimulate nerve fibers and ganglion cells of the auditory nerve, which transform sound energy into low levels of electrical current, stimulating the remaining fibers of the auditory nerve in patients with severe to profound ...

Role of SoxE transcription factors in development and disease

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Sox8, Sox9, and Sox10 arose by multiple rounds of genome duplications from a single SoxE gene in ancestral vertebrates. In this review, we will briefly discuss the molecular structure and function of SoxE transcription factors and their evolutionary origin. We will then discuss their expression, function, and developmental disorders.
