Sex‐Biased Interactions Between Spur‐Thighed Tortoises (Testudo graeca) and Hindgut Nematodes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
Tortoise (Testudo graeca) responses to nematode infestation are clearly sex‐biased, where females seem more resilient to nematode infestation than males. These findings emphasizes the need for sex‐directed conservation approaches in tortoises. ABSTRACT The nature of endosymbiont interactions is driven by different ecological and evolutionary processes.

Opportunistic Feeding and Parasite Assemblages in Sei Whales (Balaenoptera borealis) From Southern Chile Revealed by DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
This study represents the first metabarcoding‐based description of prey composition and parasite‐associated taxa in stranded sei whales from southern South America. ABSTRACT Balaenopterid whales are major consumers in pelagic ecosystems and play a fundamental role in marine food webs.

Kinetic Modeling of Microbial Inactivation in Juices Treated With Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF): A Comparative Study on Microbial Heterogeneity and Food Matrix Effects

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Kinetic Modelling of Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains in fruit and vegetable juices. ABSTRACT Pulsed electric field (PEF) processing is a promising technology for preserving fruit and vegetable juices. This research study evaluated the effect of pulsed electric fields (PEF) at 20 kV/cm on the microbial and quality parameters of ...

Evaluation of a portable glucometer for blood glucose measurement in juvenile green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas)

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 104, Issue 10, Page 661-666, October 2026.
Blood glucose is a key physiological indicator in sea turtles, but its measurement in field settings can be challenging. Portable point‐of‐care (POC) glucometers offer practicality, yet their agreement with reference laboratory methods has not been established for juvenile green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) from the Southwestern Atlantic.
