Novel and Simple Ultrasonographic Methods for Estimating the Abdominal Visceral Fat Area

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2017
Objectives. To evaluate the abdominal visceral fat area (VFA), we developed novel ultrasonographic (US) methods for estimating. Methods. 100 male volunteers were recruited, and their VFA was calculated by two novel US methods, the triangle method and the

Investigation of Parameter Effects on Virtual-Spring-Force Algorithm for Wireless-Sensor-Network Applications

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Virtual-force algorithms (VFAs) have been widely studied for accurate node deployment in wireless-sensor-network (WSN) applications. Their main purpose is to achieve the maximum coverage area with the minimum number of sensor nodes in the target area ...

MRI Proton Density Fat Fraction as a Biomarker of Marrow Recovery Following Organ‐Sparing Total Marrow Irradiation in Sickle Cell Disease

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Noninvasive quantitative assessment of marrow recovery after curative therapies such as total marrow irradiation (TMI) and bone marrow transplantation (BMT) remain poorly defined, particularly in sickle cell disease (SCD). Purpose To evaluate MRI‐derived proton density fat fraction (PDFF) as a biomarker of marrow recovery following ...

Use of natural ensiling additives with tropical grasses: Physicochemical properties, in vitro fermentation characteristics, and microbial community diversity indices

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Improving feed quality, availability, and cost‐effectiveness is a big challenge for livestock to ensure animal‐derived food for nutritional security. The aim of the study was to find out how some natural ensiling additives affect physicochemical properties, proximate composition, microbial population, in vitro fermentation ...

Copaiba oleoresin as a substitute for sodium lasalocid in high‐concentrate diets for lambs: growth performance, ingestive behavior, and metabolic and ruminal parameters

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The indiscriminate and excessive use of ionophore additives has been associated with the emergence of multi‐resistant pathogenic strains and the global spread of antibiotic resistance, raising serious public health concerns. Thus, plant biocompounds have been the focus of several studies aiming to replace ionophore additives in ...

Association between visceral fat and influenza infection in Japanese adults: A population-based cross-sectional study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
BackgroundSeveral studies have reported that obesity is associated with influenza infection; however, the role of visceral fat remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between visceral fat and influenza infection in ...

Effect of pH and VFA on hydrolysis of organic solid waste

open access: yes, 2000
The anaerobic hydrolysis rate of organic solid waste was studied at fixed volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentrations ranging from 3 to 30 g COD/L and fixed pH values between 5 and 7.

Vocal Fold Atrophy in Patients With Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This is the first study to quantify vocal fold atrophy in patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) using endoscopic imaging. Compared with age‐matched controls, AD/ADRD patients showed significantly greater vocal fold bowing and reduced mucosal wave amplitude, while normalized glottal gap area did not differ.
