Simulation of VFTO by ATP/EMTP with Various Arc Models

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Several arc models representing a disconnector’s closing operation in a 252kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) are implemented with a computer program ATP/EMTP to simulate very fast transient overvoltage (VFTO). Arc models are used as black box models in connection with a test circuit.

Dynamic arcing model of switching and its effect on VFTO

2011 1st International Conference on Electric Power Equipment - Switching Technology, 2011
In computational process of very fast transient over-voltage, it is essential to find an accurate model of the gas insulated substation. The arcing model of disconnector is particularly important. The general arc-resistance model is not available to give better simulation for the changing of status during the development of arc.

Calibration of VFTO bushing sensor based on convolution model

2009 IEEE Intrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference, 2009
Disconnector switching operations in large gas insulated switchgear (GIS) systems may cause very fast transients overvoltages (VFTO), which produce dielectric stress to transformer connecting with the disconnector. A VFTO bushing sensor is developed to measure the VFTO at the transformer entrance. Since the high frequency ratio of the bushing sensor is

Characteristic parameter analysis on the suppressing VFTO in GIS by ferrite

Proceedings of 2005 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials, 2005. (ISEIM 2005)., 2005
The insulation of apparatus in the power system is often broken by the very fast transient over voltage (VFTO), which cause from the operation of disconnector in gas insulate substation (GIS). In this paper, a new idea for the suppressing VFTO by ferrite is put forward, and the characteristic of ferrite is analyzed.

The Investigation of Interference of Secondary Cable Caused by VFTO in GIS Substation

2020 IEEE/IAS Industrial and Commercial Power System Asia (I&CPS Asia), 2020
When disconnector is operated in Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation, Very Fast Transient Over-voltage (VFTO) will be formed due to arc breakdown and reignition between the switch contacts. The transient electromagnetic field generated by the VFTO, can be coupled to the secondary cable by conduction or radiation.

Study on measurement of VFTO based on electric field sensor

2010 URSI International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory, 2010
In power system, pulse voltage is measured by both the circuit and the electric field. The special measure of VFTO is determined by non-alterable equipments of GIS. In this paper, external transient voltage is measured by electric spherical probe which means it is not necessary to access any equipment to the system.

Modeling for transformer windings under VFTO based on s-parameters

2008 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics, 2008
To study the very fast transient over-voltage (VFTO) distribution in transformer windings in gas insulated substation (GIS), a systematic methodology based on s-parameters is presented for establishing high-frequency model of transformer windings in this paper.

Estimation and Analysis of VFTO at Various Locations in 132kV GIS Substation

2018 Internat2018 International Conference on Computation of Power, Energy, Information and Communication (ICCPEIC)ional conference on computation of power, energy, Information and Communication (ICCPEIC), 2018
Gas Insulated Switchgear Substation (GIS Substation) has high reliability, easy maintenance, less area requirement etc. Due to this, it has found wide range of application in power system sector over last few decades. But the unique problem with GIS substation is generation and propagation of very fast transient overvoltage (VFTO) due to switching ...
