Furfural to Cyclopentanone – a Search for Putative Oligomeric By‐products

ChemSusChem, Volume 17, Issue 12, June 24, 2024.
The reductive rearrangement of Furfural to Cyclopentanone, a renewable chemical with bio jet applications, is accompanied by the undesired formation of oligomeric byproducts. Although initially deemed unwanted, upon thorough analysis, these heavier side products exhibit promising potential for conversion into liquid hydrocarbon fuels.
