Chronic intermittent ethanol promotes ventral subiculum hyperexcitability via increases in extrinsic basolateral amygdala input and local network activity

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The hippocampus, particularly its ventral domain, can promote negative affective states (i.e. stress and anxiety) that play an integral role in the development and persistence of alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Ex vivo dissection of optogenetically activated mPFC and hippocampal inputs to neurons in the basolateral amygdala: implications for fear and emotional memory

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2014
Many lines of evidence suggest that a reciprocally interconnected network comprising the amygdala, ventral hippocampus (vHC), and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) participates in different aspects of the acquisition and extinction of conditioned fear ...

From Rigid to Soft Robotic Approaches for Neuroendoscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Robotic assistance has had minimal impact on deep intraventricular surgeries, where small‐scale, precision, and reduced invasiveness can contribute to improved patient outcomes. Emerging technologies in rigid, soft, and hybrid robotics are reviewed to identify the most promising mechanisms for deep brain navigation in addition to an attempt to identify

Molecular and Cellular Hallmarks of Age‐Related Vestibular Hair Cell Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study utilizes single‐cell RNA‐seq transcriptomes, advanced imaging, and electrophysiology to examine universal and cell‐type‐specific aging signatures of vestibular hair cells. The study shows that impaired hair bundle function is a key driver of age‐related vestibular dysfunction.

Antimicrobial Residues in a Key Cerrado River: Distribution, Persistence, and Effects on Zebrafish Embryo‐Larval Development

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The current study aimed to quantify the antimicrobials amoxicillin (AMX), cefazolin (CFZ), chloramphenicol (CHL), metronidazole (MTZ), and sulfamethoxazole (SX) in effluents and surface water of an important Cerrado river, calculate their half‐lives, and analyze their ecotoxicity following single and combined exposures.
