Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Vibration Characteristics Analysis of the Header Assembly of Combine Harvester Under Multi-Source Coupled Excitation

open access: yesAgriculture
The vibration of the combine harvester header assembly directly affects harvesting efficiency and operational quality. To address the insufficient dynamic characterization of the cantilever conveying trough under complex field excitations, this study ...

A versatile structure for GAS payloads [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
A strong, square cross-section, central column to which experimental and accessory compartments are attached is described. The attachment may be by direct bolting or through vibration and/or thermal isolators, as needed.

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

Research on the Characteristics and Comprehensive Mitigation Measures of Vibration and Acoustic Environment in Building Clusters Above Metro Depots

open access: yesBuildings
Taking a metro over-track TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) project in Chongqing as the engineering background, this study adopts a combined research approach integrating field measurements and numerical simulation. A coupled finite element model of the

Modular packaging technique for combining integrated circuits and discrete components [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Technique for packaging electronic modules interconnects integrated circuits and discrete components by means of beryllium-copper strips in a molded diallyphthalate tray. Simple girder-like construction provides ease of assembly, high rigidity, excellent

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Assessment of comfort index (CI) based on vibration characteristics in CNG control system development

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is an environmentally friendly alternative fuel that is affordable with high octane value. Although numerous preliminary studies have been developed about CNG, none examines engine vibrations on human body comfort.

Real time structural damage assessment from vibration measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Damage identification in civil engineering structures using vibration measurements has become an important area of research. A reliable and cost effective method is required to detect and quantify local damage in the structures. The objective of this new
