Estimation of Vibration Response of a Bridge Column

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2019
Moving vehicle on a bridge is considered as a moving load and the bridge structure is considered as a continuous beam. Due to the moving position of a vehicle on the bridge, the reaction on each column may be changed. This reaction is time variant for each column. The time-variant reaction is the major accountable factor in the generation of vibrations

The Vibrating Air Column

2011
While the vibrating strings of guitars and violins are plainly visible, the sound that they produce in air is invisible. We often associate sound with air because we are used to hearing sounds that reach our ears from the air. We also learn that in the absence of air, sound cannot propagate – movies with sound propagating in outer space, not ...

Power dissipation in a vibrating disc column

The Chemical Engineering Journal, 1979
Abstract The power dissipation in a vibrating disc column of 17.2 cm inside diameter has been measured in a liquid single-phase system and in a gas—liquid two-phase system. For frequencies less than 5 Hz, the power dissipation in the column is mainly controlled by the maximum drag force exerted on the vibrating disc at the maximum velocity of disc ...

A note on vibration of beam-columns

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1986
Abstract Eigenfrequencies for beam-columns with flexible supports are determined by a unified equation which includes all classical, idealized boundary conditions as special cases. For the approximation of linear dependence between squared eigenfrequency and column load, good agreement is found when the supports are translationally fixed, but slight ...

Free Vibration of Stochastic Beam-Column

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1971
The mean and variance of n th natural frequency of a beam-column are obtained by a perturbation method when the material and geometric properties, the axial load, and the boundary conditions are probabilistic. The realtive effects of uncertainty in input parameters such as axial load and structural properties with uncertainty in output parameters of ...

Vibration of a Segmented Heavy Column

Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, 2010
The vibration of a standing (or hanging) segmented column, affected by its own weight, is studied. The governing difference equations are solved numerically. The results tend to those of the continuous column as the number of segments tends to infinity.

Response of a Column in Random Vibration Tests

Journal of the Structural Division, 1975
Laboratory experiments were conducted to observe and measure the response amplitude and frequency of a simply supported column. The column was excited by axial forces generated from sinusoidal and random (bandwidths of 3 Hz, 10 Hz, 30 Hz, and 100 Hz) signals.

Vibration characteristics of steering columns with bellows

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 2001
Bellows can be used as collapse elements for automotive steering columns. The crash performance of the steering column can be significantly improved with the bellows. However, the bending flexibility of the bellows has negative effects on the vibration characteristics.

AMBIENT VIBRATIONAL ANALYSIS OF AURELIANA COLUMN

2014
The results of ambient vibration survey of Aureliana Column in Rome are shown. The objective of this analysis was the characterization of the dynamic behavior of the monument and the comparison with the results obtained with similar studies about 30 years ago, but with older instruments and data analysis methods.

Vibration of column-supported floor slabs

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1972
Abstract The finite element displacement method of analysis is used to determine the vibration characteristics of floor slabs on four column supports. The results obtained are compared with other theoretical solutions and also experimental measurements. The effect of rigidity and finite area of the column supports are investigated.
