Vibration of a Two-Section Standing Column

Journal of Engineering Mechanics - ASCE, 2013
The vibration of a two-section column under gravity effects is studied using an efficient initial value method. The problem is governed by the length and area ratios of the two sections in addition to gravity. For the standing column, the stability boundaries show looped properties.

In vivo measurements of spinal column vibrations.

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1984
Recent epidemiological studies have indicated high risk factors for persons exposed to vibrations. We measured the in vivo responses of the lumbar vertebrae and sacrum of five volunteers who were subjected to pure sinusoidal vertical vibrations in the seated position.

Column miniextractors with a vibrating nozzle

Theoretical Foundations of Chemical Engineering, 2010
Vibrating minicolumns with low and high-frequency drives are suggested for the laboratory investigation of extraction processes. It has been experimentally determined that these apparatuses of up to 1 m in height and 20–50 ml in volume, depending on the physicochemical properties of fluid systems, can provide an efficiency of mass exchange ...

Parametric Vibration Response of Columns

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1969
Existing analysis techniques for lateral column vibrations under time pendent axial loads neglect the dynamic amplification caused by these loads. Respon to one type of dynamic load is investigated, and the basic linear differential equation motion is developed. Maximum transient displacements at midspan of initially curve.

Vibrations of a gas column

Physica, 1949
Abstract It has often been observed, in particular in low-temperature experiments, that spontaneous vibrations may occur in gas columns if the temperature of the tube containing the column varies markedly along its length. An explanation of this phenomenon was recently suggested by Mr T a c o n i s.

Random Vibration of a Beam Column

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1965
The lateral displacement of a vertical cantilever beam subjected to an axial load acting at the free end and under a random horizontal motion of the clamped end is evaluated. This is one of the beam-column problems on which little work has been done for random loading on random boundary conditions.

Studies of columns of beads under external vibrations

Physical Review E, 1994
As a toy model for dissipative granular materials, we investigate a one-dimensional column of beads undergoing external vibrations. The analysis is both experimental and numerical. We display the crossover from a condensed to a fluidized state of the column; the parameters are the agitation, the number of beads, and the momentum restitution coefficient.

Intensification of Slurry Bubble Columns by Vibration Excitement

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2003
AbstractWe show that application of low‐frequency vibrations, in the 30 to 60 Hz range, to the liquid phase of an air — water — silica catalyst slurry bubble column causes significant enhancement of both gas holdup and volumetric mass transfer coefficient over a wide range of superficial gas velocities.

Mitigation of Wind-Induced Vibration with Liquid Column Vibration Absorber

Advances in Science and Technology, 2008
Increasing heights of tall buildings often require supplementary damping system for occupant comfort in windy condition. This paper presents a liquid column vibration absorber (LCVA) installed in a 64-story building, which is the highest residential building with flat plate structural system in Korea, for mitigation of wind-induced motion.
